Benji Marshall wants to stay a tiger for life

I too would see how the next 2 years go. As much as I like Benji, he needs to perform. There is some good young talent coming through and if you not playing well, but holding your positon, you holding up up and comers. Its almost as if he's not excited about the game anymore. To me, loosing the NZ captaincy would spark me to play out of my skin to make the NZ bosses look like they bad a big mistake. If he's good enough, they will resign him, simple.

The comments about Farah in the paragraph above when clicking the link were more telling imo

This…

Here it is copy and pasted:

Mason on the money

He's one of the NRL's great characters and **Willie Mason hit the nail on the head when the Wests Tigers were getting towelled up by the Knights on Monday night. He sledged the Tigers forwards when Robbie Farah was forced to take the ball and do a hit-up in the manner of a prop. ''Are you blokes kidding?'' were his words.** Farah did it to embarrass his pack who were not doing the job. And don't think that won't weigh on Farah's mind when it comes time to do his new deal with the club. Farah wants to stay but more important than the money - which is said to be close to the mark - is the recruitment the club has in mind. The Tigers have not had much joy in that area in recent years - Gareth Ellis is a clear exception. Farah deserves a team that he wants to play with and one that will provide him and Benji Marshall with support for their obvious skills.

Good one Big Willie! You and your mates were kidding today against Manly- the supposedly big, tough Knights forwards who beat up on our crap pack last week got absolutely [This word has been automatically removed]-slapped by the Sea Eagles. They obviously don't like coming up against the big boys in the comp, wouldn't have even known Willie was out there today. He is one of the biggest front-runners in the comp that bloke.

It's funny how people on here, particularly old Balmain fans hold players such as Roach, Pearce and Sirronen in such high regard despite not as someone said "delivering" them a premiership however players like Benji, Robbie and Fitzy who actually won one and had a huge bearing on winning the comp in 2005 are still to this day not given that same respect. These players want to be Tigers for life but are being caned for it.

Some fans of all sorts of codes can and will go a life time with out seeing their club win anything, sadly we live in a period of time where we demand results and nothing but winning is an option. Gone are the days when just turning up to see you team play is acceptable.

You all are saying oh yes give Benji 18 months, well just have a think forward and see what this formum would look like if he did go another club. Look at the crap the club copped last year when we off loaded 2 players and the year before that. So becareful what you wish for.

At this point in time Benji needs to focus on his game and his involvement in the team effort and show some of his form that many admired in the past. His bargaining chips aren't what they were but it would be great to see him reverse that with some put in performances. I know he needs support from our forwards but there is more to it than that, he needs to show that he;s doing the best he can regardless of others and I haven't seen that in him for a while unfortunately, hope he shows us the 'old' Benji this arvo for starters.

Won't be surprised if Benji has a big game this arvo at all

But want to see him play his best ,when we play the best sides in the NRL

Thats what a marquee player is and thats why they get paid the big bucks

Benji is just a famous player at the moment , not an outstanding player

You were close to the mark imo Happy, best game I've seen Benji play for a while, great to see and hope to see more on Friday night.

I agree Cunno, he took the line on a bit and did things at some speed. His short kicking game was on the money and but is probably the only kicking he should do.

Just needs to get those couple of dud miracle plays out of his game.

In any case I'd be happy for him to finish a Tiger for life. Those of us here on the forum are fans that will always follow the team regardless but there are lots of others out there who follow teams because of the big personalities like Marshall.

Great post! Benji is worth millions to this club in marketing alone. I get as frustrated as the next person when he fails to grind out a game but Robbie is guilty of that too.

Benji still has plenty to offer, and I saw him step yesterday….....I expect him to kick on under Potter. They both should be Tigers for life.

Like most halves, Benji needs his forwards to at least hold their own in the ruck. When they do, as was the case against the Panthers, he is able to play to a level we all expect from him every week. When the opposition is pouring through the middle as the Roosters did then both he and Miller are on a hiding to nothing. It starts and ends with the big fellas up front. Having said that, I still don't see the need to extend his contract until towards the end of this season. What's the rush?

Yeah you're right. As critical of Benji as I have sometimes been, I would absolutely hate it if he was playing against us. Kudos to you for shaking (not stirring :wink🙂 some sense into me.

That Balmain team from the late 80's filled with players we hold in such "High regard" (could you be more of a Dick?) would put 50 points on our 2005 team.
