The Kiwis can win the rugby league world 2013 if they are prepared to gamble with Benji Marshall and play him at fullback.

The media talk has Benji slipping straight back into the halves as soon as he is fit.
Let’s be very clear here!

Benji cannot force Kieran Foran or Shaun Johnson out of the halves. They did a great job against Australia in the ANZAC Day Test and looked slick and composed and caused the Kangaroos enormous problems.

Can you imagine if they were attacking the Australian line and they had the options of a flying Benji Marshall on one side and a rampaging Sonny Bill Williams on the other?

The best Kiwi forward pack that includes Sonny Bill Williams is every bit as good as the Kangaroos.

The most important element in any team is the spine, so let’s compare the famed Australian four with the proposed Kiwi spine.

Marshall v Slater. Foran v Thurston. Johnson V Cronk. Luke v Smith

Not bad is it?

Can you imagine Benji at the back with plenty of open space? I can feel Tim Sheens cringing now.

There is no doubt that the Kiwis are still behind with world class centres and also skinny on the wings, but they will be more than competitive in the forwards, and with Benjy at fullback they will boast their best spine in memory.

Oh, did I mention they will also have the best forward I have ever seen play the game – Sonny Bill Williams?

The way that the Rugby League World Cup is scheduled, Australia may not play the Kiwis until the final on November 30 at Old Trafford in Manchester. That game would be a blockbuster."

Thanks but it just gets annoying when you have to deal with stuff in reality then you come on here and get trashed all day and get negged 20 rep points in 4 days. I don't really care about them but I just want to know why Demps has to be so low every time. Points are Points but every day he negs me 5 points for nothing. Sick of this crap.

Dreaming. He will never play fullback for WT let alone the NZ team.

Centre, on the other hand… is where I believe he should play for the Kiwis. That would also give them the option of their #6 and #7 playing on one side of the ruck every now and then, with Benji ready to go on the other side with another back row runner off his shoulder.

Demps' comment was fair….why the hell would the Tigers wanna shift the best fullback we have to the wing and the best 5/8 we have to fullback. Benji can't catch a high-ball to save his life, not a good trait for a fullback unfortunately.

Honestly on performance this year I cannot see him cracking this kiwi side, there are just too many blokes outperforming him.

1\. Locke
2\. Sheck
3\. Matai
4\. Whare
5\. Vatuvei
6\. Foran
7\. Johnson

I can't justify picking Benji ahead of any of them. Then you have Perrett, Nightingale, Leuleuai and Hoffman touring over him as backups. If he makes the squad he can count himself lucky.
