This is just a thought
It's disheartening when you see Super Rugby players slot penatlies from +40m out kick after kick, all game long, each and every game while Benji struggles to get them over from in front.
I know in Union they are more valuable @ 3 points but the style of strength of these kickers says to me that Benji needs to learn from the professionals.
:sign:

Benji seems to kick better in the bigger matches when it matters the most. I dont think he is up to being a fulltime goalkicker. I think its something you have or dont.

Still I agree, Kicking for point is an area of that game that we have blundered along with for two many years.

We dont seem to be scoring Trys as prolifically as we were dong a few years back.

we need 80% plus

Have seen him practising his kicking @ training & he puts in plenty of time, a rugby ball is easier to kick then a league ball.

So true.

It has to be because penalty goals make up 90% of the points scored in rugby tests. The running game? What a joke. The penalty game more like it.

Rugby. The game they play in heaven… because it bores you to death :frowning:

There is now very little difference in the rugby balls, going back they were different, not any more.

I have been involved with both codes and going back they were worlds apart, id say for about the last 10 years they have been very similar, if Dan Carter had a kick with the league ball he'd still brain it, and the kicking converts that have come across have killed it, O'conner, Halligan and ridge to name a few.

The reason the union players kick better is because it is more important. Therefore they place it a higher priority at training and also when selecting teams, all the way through the ranks, therefore a higher percentage of good kickers get to the top, and they practice harder, because it matters more.

Didn't he get a soccer coach once??

Hodgo did back in 05, got Graham Arnold to help him with his technique. He went on to have a record breaking season and I think to start the season he kicked 23 straight.

If Benji needs a Rugby coach to kick a League ball he is in serious trouble. The league ball is heavier and requires more precision to kick so kicking a Gilbert will only be detrimental to his game.

Does he seem to struggle at training as well or knocks them over from everywhere ??Don't doubt he works his butt off with his goal kicking but maybe its in his head ??

I have a question?? Has anyone seen Benji kick them at training ?? Is he any better at training than game day .

Apparently he slots them from everywhere at training. Pity it doesn't always translate to the field, but he landed 4/5 last week and the only miss was the Brown try from the sideline.

Yeah and we could live with that If what you have said is true You 've gotta think it is in his head Almost like the yips maybe

Im guessing he's more tired when he tries to kick goals in the game. That, combined with the added pressure, makes him miss. But he does strike them well. I feel he's close…just needs that magic piece of advice from someone (no idea who)....
