Benny Elias bleeding us dry..?

In terms of comparrisson on shopping vibe etc I would point towards Broadway and Glebe. Two distinct shopping precincts which offer distinct choices. Both of which co-exist very well together

Leichhardt as well Smeg. Everything from Coles and Woolies up to high end places. Of course housing won't be cheap - it's Rozelle. The price will reflect supply and demand. As for other shops, if they offer a good service they'll survive. In any case it is not the place of council to prevent competition for retailers.

It's definitely a case of NIMBYism, the chance for young families to get not only affordable housing but have competive retailers on thdeir doorstep, LMC is willing to forgo millions of $$$ in revenue to protect what, I'd guess that most of the councillors are only newcomers to the area and their word is gospel, bugger the long term locals.

Don't want to get into it but its hardly newcomers that are against it.
Just a heads up, it's not going to be cheap for anyone except the people shopping.
Housing won't be cheap, current retail and shops will suffer with mainstream retail. Parking is probably the only advantage of the whole thing to the area other than the Tigers section.
Good luck affording to live there whilst working at one of the new "jobs" this place will provide…

I think the fact there are now 170 one-bedroom places going in there will keep some prices lower. Of course they won't be as cheap as a similar place further from the City, but in terms of inner-city living and people trying to get a foothold into the housing market, they will work very well.

The current retail and shops have had a fairly good go so far, with basically no competition which means they can charge through the roof with little quality and choice. Despite what the protest group would have you believe, there isn't a 'mega-mall' going in there, it's something like 15 shops (similar or probably less than the Norton Street Plaza) and a food court. As others have mentioned, I think they will compliment the area well, and the trendys will continue to shop at the shops that are there, and others will shop at the retail offered by Rozelle Village, which will probably end up with both co-existing well and making Rozelle such a better place to live and visit.

Is till find it astonishing that an icon like Elias can be continuously defamed in this forum, while other threads are closed down for veering fifteen degrees off track, someone mentions the little Magpie onthe sleeve, or when the discussion becomes a little heated. If I were Elias I'd be pursuing those that have made libelous remarks with vigour.

Your not trashing some politician or DT journos reputation, Elias has made a greater contribution to the WT than most of you would in twenty lifetimes. Your petty, personal, sanctimonious BS has no place here

Benjirific or Yoss are you able to put up a link with the latest revised plans for this development? I went to tigers.org.au & can't seem to find anything about the development there.

This is the recent article in the Sun Herald. Fairfax have run a pretty consistent negative campaign. Benny Elias has been downgraded to "championing" the project now…

Thanks Yoss, I think in that article it was the first time (first one I've read anyway) SMH had pointed out & quoted Parker himself that he was originally supportive of the development at this site when he was mayor. Maybe it's the skeptic in me that believe's the last proposal rejected was an unrealistic plan the developers knew was no chance of being approved & was part of there strategy just to get the latest revised proposal approved.

It's a forum. Sheens has contributed more than Elias to "WT" but he gets destroyed on this forum. Perfectly reasonable to be critical of a football player getting involved in business.
As long as its relevant to the topic people are granted the opportunity to speak their mind provided its not offensive etc. Much like you have just done.
If Elias' involvement in this development is fishy, people are well within their rights to question where his priorities lie.

i was bored so i went on this website : http://www.rozellevillage.com.au/rozelle-village-development/

…the opportunity to bring the **Balmain Tigers** back to Rozelle with new modern facilities for members and guests.

idk anything about this project, so i thought i would find out somethings.
afaik, as it says balmain tigers, imo the club shouldn't have anything to do with this. can someone explain the connection there to me, please?

You're right!

The guy played some footy when he was younger so he should have a pass on anything he does in the future! He is a west tigers icon cause he pla…no...coa..no well he knows how tone critical of the club which is helpful , I hope he sues everyone on the Internet! And when he wins, which he will cause he played footy, he can use the money to build 3 clubs with affordable housing and strip malls. Viva la Benny!

Back in reality. Elias is not a icon to me or the club I support. His business practices are up for the public to scrutinize because he not only needs public backing but his plans impact the average punter. As for suing people on a forum for disparaging comments well...that's quite possibly, no definitely in the top 3 for " things crazy people say on the WT forum". I'm all for him making a buck post footy but he is not a protected species and from the little I have read here and there I think some of the comments are founded...albeit a little crude but that's life.
