Wayne Bennett has announced he will coach the Newcastle Knights on a four-year deal beginning in the 2012 NRL season.

The private jet he was offered to fly back home had to be a major reason also. It's a big plus when he has a family to look after back in Brisbane.

Live on the beach, don't have to put up with Sydney traffic and get back to the family in just over 1hr. Good deal for Wayne.

It will be awesome to see the Knights competitive again!

imo, bennett was a million to one to take on the sowfscum after tinkler bought the knights. there is no way benny would coach a basket case team like sowfscum when he has genuine talent he can work with over the next few years at the knights. the knights have a very good local talent pool that bennett can work with as well.

I'm not surprised Bennett is going to Newcastle. I know his family is in Brisbane but it's only an hour flight from Newcastle to Brisbane. $1,500,000 per year for 4 years is too much to turn down. Does anyone know how much Brisbane was offering? I guess this means Boyd will be going to Newcastle too? Another reason Bennett may have decided to go to Newcastle is that he wants to win a premiership at another club. Exciting times for Newcastle fans with Tinkler taking over aswell. Tinkler seems arrogant and that he has a big ego but that's a good thing for Newcastle fans because he will spend whatever it takes to make Newcastle a strong team.
