Big opportunity for Tedesco and Sironen: Fittler

City Origin Coach Brad Fittler believes that James Tedesco and Curtis Sironen can use their surprise selections as a stepping-stone into further representative honours.
Tedesco and Sironen trained with the City team at an open session in Castle Hill yesterday, with Fittler relating to what the rookie duo are experiencing ahead of the match in Coffs Harbour this Sunday.
“I was about their age when I came into Rep footy,” Fittler said.
“I can still remember the feeling coming in to these groups and having some big names around me.”
“You get the opportunity to socialise with some of the guys you hopefully represent with later. That is the main key, just to feel comfortable in their company.”
“I think it’s what the (City-Country) game is all about; giving these blokes a chance and trialling them out to see if they have got what it takes.”
Sironen was definitely a bolter into the City team, having played just seven NRL games, with his first of 2013 being last week against the Dragons.
“I was actually waiting for the Under 20’s Origin call, I was very surprised,” Sironen said.
“I am over the moon to be here with some of the boys I have been watching since I was young.”
“I want to make the most of it. I want to do myself proud and do the Wests Tigers proud.”
“I’m looking to play some consistent football and cement a spot in first grade. Whether it be the halves or not, I am happy to play where (Mick) Potter wants me.”
After playing just four NRL games, including three games this year on the wing for the Wests Tigers, Tedesco was called in to replace the injured Jarryd Hayne at fullback.
“Very surprising I got the call up, it’s exciting to be in the camp with the boys and it’s still sinking in,” Tedesco said.
“Playing with quality players is only going to help my game, so I am hoping I can bring the experience back to the Wests Tigers.”
Joel Reddy is another Wests Tigers representative that will take the field on Sunday, with the experienced outside back called in to cover injured teammate Chris Lawrence.
“Once we get out there and start playing it doesn’t really matter who they picked to start with,” Reddy said.
“It is the team that is out there playing on the day and if we can all take our opportunity it will be good for us.”
Reddy previously represented City in 2010 and has been selected in the centres despite playing on the wing this year.
“I have played most of my footy in the centres, but as long as I am on the field for the Wests Tigers I am happy.”
“Hopefully we can get a win this weekend and carry some form back with me.”
The City squad have made their way to Coffs Harbour, with the blockbuster clash against Country kicking-off at 3pm on Sunday.

It's unbelievable to me that there are WT supporters on this forum who can't see siros potential. I'd bet my left nut the bloke is a future superstar. He cops unwarranted flack on the basis of the teams current transitory situation. If he was at the storm or manly we'd all be wanting to sign him on a 5 year deal at 500k per year.

I like the fact that Ted and Siro not only represent Wests Tigers in this game but also that they represent both sides of the joint venture and their respective local areas, great stuff.

Yes good point cunno. Though I'm sure if you asked them they wouldn't say anything other hand they are just wests tigers players!

I don't think he is copping flack at all T Bone

Just some see him as a 6 and others see him as a back rower Nothing wrong with a bit of versatlity

Definitely nothing wrong with versatility, but I've also seen some flack in another thread or two, which to me is crazy considering he's 19 and payed 7 games, mostly in an unsettled lineup. I probably shouldn't get so defensive of him. With the number of members on here, there's always going to be someone who doesn't agree.

what's wrong with people being unable to see his potential? I've barely seen him play so i'm unsure whether he can perform well at 1st grade. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt due to all the praise he gets but I have no idea if he has potential seen he's been injured a lot and played a lot of nyc/nsw cup games that i havent been to or seen on tv.

potential gets you nowhere… you need to work your butt off in first grade and do it consistently to get anywhere near the rep level.

getting picked after 7 game and only one game 1st grade game in 6 months... that's why people are surprised

btw im not saying that sirro hasnt worked hard

Fitter was a great player but is a serious retard. He picks 2 kids who although show great promise, have not proven a thing yet in top level and then turns around and heaps pressure upon them. Rep Footy is for the hard working talented players who have taken their game to a level higher than first grade. These two haven't earned this elevation and I really hope it doesn't backfire on them.

I hope they can hold their own at such a high level! And not to mention injuries.

Cn't wait to watch em! hope everyone watches the city country match and cheers on our boys

'A big opportunity' to get injured - that's what goes through my mind. These are two young players coming back after season-ending injuries.

Why am I such a pessimist? Am I turning into Golden?,
