Forget Benji, hearing more and more rumours as of late that the Waratahs have been in talks with Taqele Naiyaravaro, the bloke is a weapon and needs to be resigned with us before the Tahs can poach him away.

Saw this last month:
http://www.fijisun.com.fj/2013/05/30/nsw-waratahs-target-taqele/

There have also been further talks since then apparently from a source close to me. Would be a huge loss for us if we do lose him imo

If it is true, we would not be able to compete with the dollars they would offer. Only hope is if he wants to stay a Tiger!

The last Fijian player the Waratahs took from the Tigers was Fijian winger Lote Tuqiri, who is now back with Tigers

Good research

It would be a shame to lose the big fella as he's on the verge of FG at the moment IMO. Another off-season and he'll get a run next year at some stage I'm sure.

That'll play on his mind in the decision making process. Does he want to reward himself for the hard work of the past 2-3 years and achieve his goal. OR will he go for what offers him better security. Tough call, especially with a child now.

Perhaps we had an option for him for next season? Would make sense. But really we need to sign him for a few years. He will be a star in 12 months time, for whatever team he is playing for. I hope he repays us for the work we've put into him, and that he gets financially rewarded for doing so too.

But how much can we offer him really? 100-120k plus bonuses? If the tahs came in with 300k it would be hard to match but could understand him taking it.

Generally speaking I think your average union player gets less than league players, but the top players can get topped up by the ARU for playing or potentially playing for the Wallabies.

That may be a bit of a stretch for him at this stage, but his talent is there for all to see.

I think we could commatch or beat the Tahs if he doesn't get a top up. And the more I think of it I think that's more reserved for players like Rogers, Sailor, Tuqiri who were very established players in the NRL first. I don't think the ARU would be interested in someone who hasn't even played a single NRL game yet.

But rugby does also have the attraction of playing teams from NZ and SA, and potentially he could play for Fiji in the world cup in a few years time if he does well.

The NRL has infinitely more money than the ARU these days.
NRL with its new tv deal will pocket 40 million profit per year.
Last week Channel 10 signed the Wannabies to a TV deal worth 2.5 Million a year. Compare that to the 1.3 Billion deal the NRL has signed….. There is also Foxtel but that is nothing special either (less than 100 mill over im not sure how many years? 4?)
ARU loses millions each year. Even this year with the Lions they still lost 8 million.
As for seeing SA. That’s what the off season is for.
As for the NRL salary cap in 2013 the club grant is $7.1 million which covers the salary cap of $5.85 million for the top twenty-five players at each club. The salary cap will increase to $6.3 million in 2014, $6.55 million in 2015, $6.8 million by 2016 and $7 million in 2017.
I think Super 12's in somewhere around the low 4 million mark. Not sure. And it wont be going up any time soon with the losses both the ARU and NZRU keep posting.
People need to start realising that paying Benji, as out of form as he is, the supposed 1.5 million over 3 years (if it true) is F all.

Hope this is not true. With all the money from relasing players, we should lock in the junior talent and leave a cool 300k incase some quality comes on the market late ofr mid season.

where's he going to play for us anyway?

our centres and wingers are locked in.

in reality we have to lose one of them.

Start giving a run as an impact forward? Would need to learn to defend in the middle and run hard as hell, but hes got the frame/pace and can find the try line on the wing.

Maybe do the role BMM is supposed to.

If he can make the adjustments he needs for the future he will be a huge loss if he was lost to rugby

In my opinion potential wise he could be the best of the all the young guns coming through for the backs

But if you decide to switch , go north young man

Yep,most super 15 players are paid $100-$200k…ARU top ups can be as much as an additional $800k,but doubt whether the top players are over a mill these days.
ARU has publicly stated it wants to reduce spend on players to attempt to break even.....Idoubt whether ant second grade NRL winger wld be on ARUs radar for any top up,so think we cld comfortably match what hed get in super 15s Rugby.
Hed help himself if he improved his workrate..if he did hed command a 1st grade slot with WT & the $$ that goes with it
