SIX wins in a row is a nice feeling to begin your working week. Whether you are a player or a Wests Tigers fan, like all things in life, when you are feeling good, everything just seems brighter. And that’s the case for my teammates at Concord Oval.
It’s funny how things can change. A few weeks back, the team had plenty of critics, both from the media and from some of our own fans who were telling us our season was as good as gone after a slow start.
Winning one game from our first six wasn’t acceptable at all but we always believed in ourselves that through hard work and the strong bond between the players and coaching staff that we could turn it around.
I’ve been playing in the NRL for some time now and as a player, you just can’t get too far ahead of yourself. You just have to take it one week at a time.
Our 40-0 win over Canberra was very good and the most pleasing part for us as a team was keeping them scoreless. It certainly helped our for and against record which will be crucial heading into the finals.
The conditions in Canberra were terrible but we started strongly and kept working hard for each other. I thought our props Aaron Woods and Keith Galloway were again outstanding up front which allowed the likes of Benji Marshall and Robbie Farah to weave their magic. The backs certainly took advantage of the foundation laid by the forwards and some of the tries we scored were amazing.
We all enjoyed the win and took plenty of confidence away from Canberra. But that’s last week and this week it is all about preparing for another big challenge in the Melbourne Storm on Friday night.
I’m looking forward to coming up against my former club. It was tough for me at the start of this year to adjust to the free flowing style of the Wests Tigers after playing such a structured style at the Storm.
With each game, I’m getting more comfortable with my teammates and learning how they play. I feel like my form is improving all the time.
It should be a great match and it would be fantastic to walk away with seven straight wins.
