Blair blows in from the Storm

WESTS TIGERS recruit Adam Blair is impressing his new teammates with his work ethic and maturity, according to Benji Marshall.Marshall, who has worked closely with Blair in their respective roles as New Zealand captain and vice-captain, said the 25-year-old had trained hard and been the ultimate professional since his arrival from the Storm earlier this year.''He's brought, I suppose, a lot of what he's learned down in Melbourne to our team and he's the vice-captain of New Zealand as well, so he's brought a lot of leadership,'' the Kiwi skipper said.''I think he's really added to our forward pack a lot, which can only make us stronger, and he's been really impressive with the way he trains, with his work ethic at training and as a bloke he's a pretty good guy too.''The Tigers are hoping Blair will bring something more caustic than ''pretty good guy'' to his on-field work this season.Known for his aggression and intimidating presence, the Storm's former hardman - who spent the final five weeks of his time with Melbourne sidelined for his role in the infamous Battle of Brookvale - has been recruited for his point of difference in the Tigers' forward pack. But Marshall stopped short of calling Blair the club's missing ingredient. ''I don't know if there was a missing link,'' he said.

''I thought we had one of the strongest forward packs last year anyway, but I think we have strengthened it with him coming. We've still got internationals. We've got Keith Galloway, who played for Australia, Chris Heighington and Gareth Ellis both played for England, other guys on the cusp of playing for Australia [like] Robbie Farah, so our forward pack is strong and where we want it to be anyway.''

Marshall was yesterday promoting the work of the Children's Cancer Institute Australia, a research institute based at the University of NSW. The Tigers will for the first time open their season launch to the public with the aim of raising $250,000 for CCIA. It is a replacement for Footy Rocks, the charity gala organised by Marshall this time last year to benefit CCIA.

''It was a lot of work before the start of the season and this season the club said they'd take it on board and join it with the season launch, and everything they raise for the season launch would go towards the CCIA,'' he said. ''It was just a lot easier for me to get into the season and come back from holiday and let them take over a bit more, and I really appreciate their support.''

Marshall lost his father to pancreatic cancer in 2009\. His grandmother and an aunt died of breast cancer and a second aunt died of bowel cancer.

''I've been through a lot of struggles with cancer with my own family and I've seen how tough it is on families, especially when it comes to children,'' he said.

''If I can use my profile in the game to do anything I can to raise awareness about it and raise money to find a cure, it just makes me proud of myself.''

Blair will surprise a few of the doubters,he will shine under our style of play,we as a fan base should be really excited about our chances this year.

My skin crawls, I walk up at at night In swets, a cant concentrate at work at all and my wife is starting to avoid me when ever footy is mentioned.

I just miss the footy season. A couple of seasons where we got so close, and thiS year we are a real contender. Blair will bring a lot of wow factor to our team, and will add to the core professionalism in our team. Another player the opposition needs to be scared of, making holes for Robbie, benji and teddy. Go the tigers.

Someone at SMH should do their research. Benji isn't our captain.

HT I think it does actually say Kiwi skipper Reread twice now I can't see where it says tigers skipper

It has now been corrected. It originally said "Tigers captain" in both the headline and the article.

Did anyone hear Adam Blair on Talkin Sport this afternoon?

He mentioned that he is loving it at the Tigers and the players have made him feel right at home. He is enjoying his new role and indicated that whilst Bellamy and Sheens were similar in their love of the game, they run things very differently. He also stated that the young guys in Woods and Groat have made real impressions on him.

Pappy asked him about John Grant and Blair said that the guy is a freak! He turned up to training on the first day and witnessed this guy streak down the sideline at awesome speed. He said the guy was Grant and he is an amazing talent. Hopefully we might see him in the top grade soon as we need the speed.

Blair said that the only thing to let the tigers down over the past two years was some poor decisions at critical times. I thought that statement summed our past two seasons up very well.

He will be a leader and an experienced shoulder for the other guys.

His defense is also rock-solid. He brings a heap of dynamics to our team.

Missed more tackles than Fulton, & does a lot less tackles.

Doesn't score tries.

doesn't hit holes.

Not many off loads.

What HEAP of dynamics does he actually bring , penalties?

…...well, he plays for his country and wins premierships so I guess he must be pretty talented considering all the negatives you found with his game!

Recognized as the best wrestler in the NRL . Arguably one of the most professional players on the training track Will help Groat and Woods no end with their professionalism of the field which is 80% of the battle won

Terrific competitor and you always see his best in the big games

He was a must buy for the Tigers and his combination with Ellis and either Fulton or Rhino will be the best in the NRL

Is that enough dynamics Bob ??

That was a great interview he spoke from the heart and didn't just give cliche answers.
Adam sounded genuinely excited and happy about being with us.

Is there a link to the podcast for that interview? I tried looking on the 2SM site and found nothing.

His 2011 total was 25 tackle busts.

His 24 offloads in 2011were the most by a Storm forward.

His defensive stats are at a whopping 91 per cent effectiveness.

He has a career winning success rate of 71 per cent (86 wins from 121 games), with only Manly’s David Williams (76 per cent) singing his team song more often among active NRL players.

I'd say he brings a fair bit.
