Blair will be welcome at Tigers, says Marshall

WESTS TIGERS' star five-eighth Benji Marshall has moved to quash any potential ill feeling towards the club's new signing, Adam Blair, saying his New Zealand teammate will be ''as welcome as any other player who's ever come to our club''.

With the Tigers having had to offload some popular players to sign Blair, the club faced the prospect of fans and even some players resenting the newcomer. Not so, said Marshall, who maintained they needed a player of Blair's calibre. ''Any new player who comes into the team is welcome, no matter what,'' he said.

''I can assure you that with Adam, when he comes, it'll be the same. There's no ill feeling towards Adam. It's not Adam's fault. All he's doing is looking to do the best thing for his family and come to a good club. And he's done that.

''We had salary cap issues - that's the club's problem. It's got nothing to do with Adam Blair. I can guarantee Adam and anyone, he's going to be as welcome as any other player who's ever come to our club.''

Marshall expressed relief the signing of Blair was finally announced last week. ''He's a big signing for the club,'' Marshall said. ''I played with him for New Zealand, and he's definitely something we need at the club. A player of his talent will be a great addition to our squad.''

Theres no doubt the Salary Cap and the recent fine played a big part in the need to let some players go.
All in all though aslong as we keep Heighno I'm happy enough, but Humphries should be a little red faced about the fine. I really think they thought they could win over Schubert and not have to deal with the fine.
I reckon Blair was signed before the fine was finalised.

Just glad its all out in the open now and the club can get on with things for 2011 and 2012.

I just hope he is worth the reported price tag. Too many times I have seen big names transfer and become poor performers.

Geeze Benji has been busy the past few days….this must be the 5th story on him this week already.

Hope he is squeezing a little bit of training in as well....

There wont be any problem with Blair coming. He will strengthen the pack no end.
