Blake Austin - Wests Tigers Type of Player

I am encouraged by the prospect of Austin not having many games under the belt. It puts Brooks and Austin on similar levels in terms of running the show and calling shots, allows them to find their rhythm.

I think having someone like Anasta can be good to steady the younger guys, but it might also be intimidating being partnered with a guy who has almost 300 first grade games.

Two young halves, its a gamble but who knows…

Worked out well for Manly with DCE and Foran.

I'm none too fussed about having young halves, it's a less devastating prospect than having Anasta there.

Read my mind CB

Manly duo have grown into their respective positions together and are forming one of the best pairings seen in NRL in years.

Tom Humble came to us after being voted player of the year in reserve grade and although he turned out a handy player for us he never was going to be a super star, I hope Austen dosnt turn out the same way, as we need a no6 that is up to NRL standard week in and week out.

Iam not saying Austen is a dud,I just think we will not know till mid season if he can cut the mustard as plenty of players star in the lower grades but struggle in the top grade and plenty of schoolboy sensations never make it for one reason or another.

Geez some of you are clutching to straws in the hope of a great year… This bloke couldn't get a run at Penrith!

Lets hope he has got a prescription from Dank to become the saviour!

Yeah I agree…especially new players coming to us, we have a habit here at WTs of high hopes for new recruits in NRL only to see them spend most of the time in reggies

He is talented, but still unproven

That's true ink, but we do have a new coach, he may actually play the talent that he purchases, unlike the old one!

"running the stairway to **Hades**"?! wow, that sounds pretty harsh! so he has been to hell and back already….

great article, great to read about a young guy in the nrl doing some good.

ive only seen clips of him playing in the nsw cup, but he looks like a pretty good prospect, and like a lot of others here i hope he can translate to the top grade and be the number 6 the tigers need to become a far better team.

good on you blake. and good luck!

I liked to see a halves combo of Brooks & Austin start next year but with Anasta being so ineffective in the back row & no doubt with Potter's head being on the chopping block in the first 2/3 months, he will have no option but to start with Anasta & Brooks.

Still think we will see a lot of

6\. Anasta
7.Austin

?? why would that be the case given potter has basically said brooks will start bar injury.

Potter has also said Austin was purchased as a 7 as well as a 6.

Its just my gut feeling that Brooks will float in and out of 1st grade next year giving Austin a few chances.

think King Sirro is close to the money, Brooks will have form slumps and the odd injury. Also I think Potter and his coaching staff will hold Brooks back at certain stages of the year just to protect him physically and mentally.

I could also be wrong. he may come out in round one flying and maintain the standard for the season, but really that would be a fairy tale come true and in reality that dosnt happen

DCE and Adam Reynolds have done this in the last few years,so whilst they are exceptions,it does happen, lets hope Brooksy is the 3rd exception.

DCE and Reynolds had monster packs to play off. Not to mention, both were a couple of years older.
