Taxpayers will compensate axed Metro losers: Keneally
February 21, 2010 - 1:08PM
>
Taxpayers will fund compensation payments to disgruntled tenderers of the NSW government's $5 billion Sydney metro plan that has been officially shelved.
>
Premier Kristina Keneally would not disclose how many millions of dollars had been lost on the failed project but says private contractors will be compensated.
>
"We will reimburse all reasonable costs for the CBD (metro)," Ms Keneally told reporters in Sydney.
>
She fronted a throng of reporters today to announce the government's Metropolitan Transport Plan, which spells out the axing of the CBD metro project.
>
Ms Keneally would not reveal how much it will cost taxpayers to placate the disgruntled construction consortiums or how much more money has been lost on government expenditures to date on the project.
>
"I'm not going to speculate on that except that we have a commitment to reimburse," she said.
>
Up to $60 million had been spent on the project by the construction industry, Australian Constructors Association president Wal King said earlier in February.
>
Mr King said then that the industry would take "serious issue with this government" if the CBD metro was shelved.
>
Today, Ms Keneally detailed other highlights of the transport blueprint, which includes the official revival of Sydney's northwest rail link.

I agree

What will be the next sub section?

"For all posts about goal line defence click here"
"For all posts regarding played aged between 24 and 26 click here"
"For all discussion on Todd Payten's bike pants click here"

As soon as the season proper begins we'll be reverting back to the standard layout

"Previous Rounds"
"Round 1: Wests Tigers vs. Manly"

that's how it's been for years.

also, if you want to find the Balmain Leagues club thread, you'll find it in the Balmain/Wests section, or just simply use the "search" tool at the top-right of every page

Mate …if you cant cop some contstructive criticism, which others have agreed with...then thats your problem Kul.

happy to take any criticism. I honestly didn't think that it was an issue (minor, albeit).
But obviously there was a need to fix it, and it's done

as for the BLC, the Development Application that was submitted to Leichhardt Council makes no mention of the Metro. In fact, any attempt to integrate the two sites would have required TIGERS lodging a completely new DA or a revised DA which, considering their circumstances, would be highly unlikely.
If the Metro was to go again, TIGERS would have submitted a Section 96 at some stage in the future, but that doesn't look like it will happen now.

As for the Sydney Metro Authority using the site to access underneath the Darling Street/Victoria Road intersection, whilst it clear won't be happening anymore, I would imagine that the only ramifications would be that the completion date would now be pushed forward.

In regards to compensation, I'm pretty sure that's only being paid to the construction and consultancy firms. If TIGERS were to receive any, it would be only very minor and cover the preliminary planning costs of integrating the two sites or preparing the Section 96

happy to be corrected on any of those facts though

I disagree. That was my problem with the last forum with the search engine only working half the time but most of the time not at all.

Everything works perfectly on this forum. Most likely because it is all bought and paid for.
