Blow out scores

Apologies to mods - I couldn’t find the round discussion thread. Was there one last round??

Anyway.

I’m in Fiji and on Thursday nights they play all the highlights from the previous weeks games.

Last week was really dismal, poor footy in most games because they were all so one sided.

Usually I assume the average punter would watch there team and then would catch one or two others in the round if they were a good match up.

Watching the highlights of the last round I wouldn’t rush to watch any NRL match that wasn’t my team. The end product is pretty miserable now days unless you get two powerhouse teams playing against each other. I think for the first time I could actually see a be if it to a well run salary cap to even it out a bit. (Previously I was in the camp of it being a free for all, thinking well eventually each team that couldn’t keep up would sell to someone who would put the money in all American sports)

In previous years we have had multiple weekends of blowouts.
Last weekend, it was essentially those ramping up for finals playing those who already have their swimmers on. You get that sometimes at the end of the year.
I think we’ll get a good competitive finals series and a great World Cup following it.

Personally I think Vlandys is destroying the game with the rule changes and their interpretation as well as the salary cap application and this has now manifested.

I mean look at tonight's game the sin bins etc.

And what's worse they will placate us during the finals with less 6 agains, slow rucks and tight low scoring games with a different application of rhe rules.

I suppose they know we are sucked in and will come back for more punishment.

The finals includes the only teams that matter.
The interpretations change.

He says a lot in interviews without actually saying anything at all.

The season is too long. Can’t watch anymore NRL since 2-3 weeks ago. The blowouts just make ppl like me turn off at halftime

This is really destroying the game along with referees appearing to favour certain teams to fit an NRL narrative. Souths says thank you

The game at the top level is now so fast, powerful, dynamic that the difference between average and elite is increasing and there’s just not enough talent to go around.

But is it any different to when St George and Souths dominated the 50s and 60s?

Historically the comp has never been “fair”.

Clubs/NRL need to find a way to motivate players when their season is gone.

But the point was all the salary cap rules were introduced to stop what happened in the 50 & 60 s happening again.

It still happening however now it’s because teams are exploiting and bending those rules which reduces the integrity of the sport.

We would of been better off keeping it open slather, there would of been top teams like now except it would more transparent why. It would also be better for the players as they would be paid more.

Or if they do want to keep it a more competitive comp, pick any of the ways multiple sports do and actually.enforce it. (Premier league with two division and relegation, AFL with the draft or NHL with proper Salary caps.

Yep clubs adapt and evolve to gain an advantage.

Salary cap is to protect the clubs from themselves, not to keep it even.

I personally think self interest from managers is the heart of the problem.

Is it possible the refs want Souths to beat Storm in the GF.? It can’t look good with Penrith winning each year and having an ex Ref as coach. 😂
I think the blow out scores are a feature of each team’s determination. Some teams are turning over a lot of players, while others have a clear focus on getting to the GF.
