As of the 5th of may 2010, woolworths and its affliates (woolworths petrol, bws, big w etc) will no longer be accepting visa and mastercard debit transactions as a cr transaction. They have removed the cr option meaning that you have to select sav or chq instead. For many of us, that means extra bank fees each month.

We need to send woolworths a strong message to say that this is not acceptable. If this is a change that affects you at all, join this group, send woolworths an email and find an alternative grocery shop, petrol station, department store and bottle shop.

I'll never shop there again until they demolish this fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why does it mean more bank fees?

Using your key card there doesnt attrack fees nore does it count as a transaction..
Its like getting cash out at a servo. You can get cash out from the console and doesnt cost anything

Look Boycott Woolworths anyway.. :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: ..they have way too much of a monopoly.. :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse: ..the BBQ chicken was Yumo though for tea… :righton: :righton: :righton:

IGA...all the way...... :wahoo: :wahoo: :wahoo:

Actually, if use the savings or cheque option, it counts as a transaction on your account. If you bank with a credit union, or other facility with limited transactions per month, this will rack up your fees. I bank with a credit union, due to my employer, and was encourged to have a VISA debit card. After 2 years of begging hubby to use the credit option at EFTPOS, finally our fees have dropped from $30+ to nil. Now they will go back up to $30+ a month - probably more because I always used the credit option. As for using cash, when you get charged anything up to $5 per withdrawall because your banking facility does not provide any ATM's anywhere nearby, that kinda kills that arguement. Again, another big win for the big fat cash grabbing banks, and big "get stuffed" to the customer.

It was bound to happen eventually. The banks are changing fee structure for this kind of debit card.

Luckily I got a structured account with a $4.00 flat fee for unlimited Eftpos, ATM & Internet Banking transactions.

Also I would boycott Woolworths but they are just too convenient

all you have to do is entre your cards pin number instead of hitting OK, and i believe you got charged a fee anyway when you could use it as a credit card or did i read the signs at the checkouts at Big W wrong

Affects visa debit and mastercard debit cards staks! Some of us don't like to use credit cards man, or in my case they won't give me one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't quite understand…if it is a debit card, why do you even get the credit option anyway :s

and which bank are you with? My bank does not charge me fees if i use my debit card over the counter.

I normally just use cash. I can use the commonwealth bank atms as much as i like and i don't have to pay anymore than my $6 monthly fee, and there seem to be commonwealth atms everywhere.

I'm with both savings and loans and bank s.a. And bank s.a. Has limits on their transactions with a concession account which is free ( 3 atm's and 8 eftpos), i'm not sure about saving and loans though!

I earn a crust as a refrigeration engineer, but before that i used to be on the tools as a mechanic, and let me say i much prefer woolworths over any other company purely because of the care they have toward their perishable stock. Iga and independents are cheap but they don't look after their equipment as well because it would mean they have to raise their overheads to correctly maintain everything. Those refrigerated cases are supposed to be cleaned monthly and the deli nightly, and let me tell you, nothing spells fresh like a 5 year old 500gram packet of mince that has fallen into the fan well and been left there to procure a lovely green hue. I won't say which supermarket that occurred at but it wasn't a woolworths. They are easily the best of the lot with their produce and perishables, even though they screw their customers and the farmers that supply them.

Coles is the best in south australia cultured bogan! Before coles bi-lo was feral like you described and i am witness to that!

Well here's Woolworths side of things. They're only changing the rules for debit cards so if you want to use the credit option bite the bullet and get a credit card!! Not really worthy of a boycott in my opinion…

Bi-Lo is Coles. They were a subsidiary of Coles Group Limited. They brought them all under the one banner to stop confusion. Same with Safeway in Victoria, they've all been rebadged as Woolworths.

It wasn't always like that…

Bi-Lo originated in the NT i believe. I think Coles only brought them out mid to late 90's. The used Bi-Lo's in lower-socio econmic areas and slower upped their prices and eventually turned them to Coles fearing a Coles supermarket would stuggle in such areas brand new.

I've been avoiding Woolworths and Coles for a long time... moreso Woolies... they buy Aussie produce and sell it off overseas at a higher price and stock the garbage produce from overseas here... If you wana taste awesome produce... go to New Zealand... it's Aussie produce!
