Don't understand what the problem is. Instead of pressing Cr you press savings or Chq now. Seems the same thing to me as I always thought of Debit cards as a savings account with the added feature off been able to use it to order stuff online as EFTPOS isn't available.

Difference is… some banks (mine was one) don't charge if you use credit. This charge is covered buy Woolies. When you make a debit transaction (Sav)... the bank Woolies use charges you a fee...

Bi-Lo is Coles. They were a subsidiary of Coles Group Limited. They brought them all under the one banner to stop confusion. Same with Safeway in Victoria, they've all been rebadged as Woolworths.

It wasn't always like that…

Bi-Lo originated in the NT i believe. I think Coles only brought them out mid to late 90's. The used Bi-Lo's in lower-socio econmic areas and slower upped their prices and eventually turned them to Coles fearing a Coles supermarket would stuggle in such areas brand new.

I've been avoiding Woolworths and Coles for a long time... moreso Woolies... they buy Aussie produce and sell it off overseas at a higher price and stock the garbage produce from overseas here... If you wana taste awesome produce... go to New Zealand... it's Aussie produce!

Oddly enough there used to be a BiLo and a Coles at the Broadway shopping centre and may well still be for all I know. The prices were exactly the same…

Woolworths also own Flemmings, some of which make Bi-Lo look like Harrods...

Get yourself a visa credit card with a reward system and join the program at woolies that has links with the qantas frequent flyer scheme and earn points towards those away games in Townsville Melbourne and Brisbane. Just went down to Adelaide last weekend for free. The only trick, pay your card off each month and avoid the interest charges.

Yeah Coles didn't always own them… It's like Woolies and Food For Less. FFL was a chain that sprouted up where large scale supermarkets didn't meet the area's demographic in terms of socio-economic and/or population (they didn't just dump them in "poor" areas, there used to be one at Cherrybrook.) Then WW bought them out and converted them all. I was referring to Coles/Bi-Lo being one entity and by rebadging all their Bi-Lo stores to Coles they could trade every supermarket they owned under one banner and therefore need less administration and less of a management structure because they weren't operating two businesses. That said, most of the ex Bi-Lo's are still pretty filthy stores even though they're trading as Coles now.

Funny you mention that Yossarian, Its the same at Rhodes Shopping Centre. You have Coles at one end and Bi-Lo at the other. There's very few of them left though.

As facinating as it is reading about the expansion of our megaconglomarate Supermaket SUPERPOWERS…all of it true...

I only shop at Woolworths for dairy and dry stock. I have my own independent butcher, baker and green grocer. Much better produce and worth paying that little bit extra for.

There's a Bi-Lo in Umina that they keep talking about morphing into a Coles. Seeing as though Woolworths are just about to open and Aldi soon after they might finally do something about it. I prefer to buy my meat at a butcher - the quality is a lot better and besides you can't get crocodile sausages in at Woolies!! 😱pen_mouth:

Again, funny you mention that because we're doing the Woolworths at Umina at the moment (due to open by July from what I remember,) and I actually worked at the Bi-Lo myself about 6 or 7 years ago as a fourth year apprentice when we did the last refurbishment. That Woolworths is quite a big store for the area. I wouldn't have thought the community would support such a large WW and a Bi-Lo…

there can be a in your face way to get at woolies.
fill your trolley up with a lot of cold/frozen food items.
when you go to check out, and all have been put thru the scanner, and you go to pay, tell them you cannot pay other than using credit, so when they tell you no credit will be accepted, just walk away with all food left there in bags.
the staff will have to put it all away.
if it happens at a few stores, and inconveniencies the company, with food wastage, eventually the knobs in charge will give into public pressure.
people power can make a difference.

Yeah Yeah ….all good but you can still use your credit card westTAHger...... used it today to get discounted piklets and a few other ON special reduced items..... that still probably gave them 150% profit.....

Well it's worse than that - there's already a Coles and Woolworths at Woy Woy and soon there will be the same at Umina Beach plus an Aldi on the way. You'd be surprised how many people live on the Peninsula but yeah it does seem a bit overkill. I live in Umina (admittedly at the Woy Woy end) and it's not that much of a trip to go to Woy Woy. If you lived in Umina and Ettalong it will be closer but you'd think they'd be canibalising the trade at the Woy Woy store.

no good if you don't have a CREDIT card, only a VISA DEBIT card, which charges something like $1.20 PER savings/cheque transaction over the 8 you get for a month. Looks like i'll be heading back to Coles - and stuff you to Woolies - although I do like the idea of filling the trolly up and then leaving it at the cash register …

Would if I could Yossarian but they won't give me one!

Other People don't like Cresdit cards and would rather use their own funds and use the visa debit/ mastercard debit option!

Woolworths are Greedy Money Hungry Retail Giant Bullies, and the only person that will benefit is The CEO who will get their 350K a year instead of 300K a year, while people like myself get a measley 20K a year!

All these Retail Giant Bullies care about is themselves and not the "little" people like myself and many others!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By selecting the Cheque/Savings Option with my bank they charge me a FEE!

If I can use the Credit Option on my Visa Debit Card It is FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These BULLY RETAIL GIANTS are GUILTY to Ripping off the little man! You will see that if there is a private shop next to them which sells the same product, they will always beat the "little man", even if it means decresasing their prices and making a LOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will NEVER shop at woolies until they let me use the visa debit function!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is Australia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark, I think you'll find they earn a shitload more than 350K a year, I think you'll find their CEO is on a seven figure (possibly even 8) figure salary. Especially when they consisently turn over a larger profit every year.

I was asked if I wanted to buy Woolworths shares back in 2002 when they were only $10 a pop. They're up around $27 now… wish I listened :frowning:
