Brenden Santi signs with Eels

Can't say i'm that dissapointed - yes he has potential but he is a small backrower (95kg and only 181cm). He isn't a Wests Tigers junior having come from bulldogs only last year. He probably wouldn't see much first grade is one of those tackling machine types and would be a fulton replacement but Fulton is here for 3 more years. Reminded me of Matt Hyland who also left for Parra I think and hasnt ever seen first grade. We also have in Lovett and Sue better young backrowers and the couple of blokes from SG Ball - Matt Woods and Tatola, etc

While we have salary cap space - that doesen't mean should pay any more now then they were willing too before or the money is wasted.

Lastly given Parra's history of singings and thier club he is going to the strugglers - I don't remember too many people getting better at the eels

As for the comment above about look at them now - well never heard of Isacc Lui and Matt Ryan is being released by the team that winning the wooden spoon

From the U20s other then those who have resigned I only see Moses, Brooks and the young forwards up from SG Ball as nessecary plus perhaps Hoiter - Rowe hasnt been able to keep his fullback spot and Rudolph the same, i dont even think they make our u20s starting side at full strength

Not disappointed, would of liked to keep him but he didn't handle the step up to NSW Cup pretty well and is pretty small.

personally from santi's point of view you can see where he is coming from in moving on. at the tigers he probably has sue, fulton, thompson, lovett, murdoch masilla in front of him. at parra i cant see many in front of him so a chance of playing first grade regularly would be the key good on him

Our club will always be the target of vultures such as the eels. Great juniors will attract rivals

Vultures such as the eels? we stole him off the dogs a year or two ago.

Besides which I can't recall that many players that left us for the eels?

Santi looks good in the lower grades, he was brilliant in the under 20's origin game. But I think Sue is better at lock, hope we can lock him up and then get a couple of big strong and fast backrowers to run good lines off Brooks on the fringes.

We won't be able to keep everybody we develop. Hopefully we keep the right ones though.

Santi is excellent. Those comparing to Hyland and Ryan are kidding themselves.
We have so many great juniors we can't keep them all. I'd liked to have kept him though.
Parra would have paid a bit for him, as we wanted him

Bloody shame, but with a good crop of juniors we have to expect other teams are going to try and poach some of them. Especially a side like Eels who just cleaned house in a huge way.

Best of luck to him.

Mayer said on twitter he was guaranteed a top 25 spot which we could t do and more money then we could offer him. So seems fair enough for us he would have been a nsw cup 2nd tier and on 2nd tier money

Would have thought he was on the verge of the top25 squad for 2014 actually. Or getting real close to it.

Maybe he was but the Eels put a bigger cash offer and more of a guarantee for a spot in the 17.

Oh also, Mayer said Spence was offered a top 25 spot by Panthers too.

Looks to me like Mayer also confirmed Shaun Spence is going to Penrith but it's hard to understand exactly what he meant.

@banksy65 yes. Announced that last week. Guaranteed top 25 on money we could not Match. Dogs junior heading to parra. Can't keep em all.

@gcmayer @banksy65 Thats a real shame. Nice Kid can you confirm Shaun Spence heading to penrith ?

@PrimeO @banksy65 we gave it a go to keep santi. won't do overs. Spence also top tier. With young talent coming through, tough calls made.

By saying Spence ALSO top tier I think he means that Spence has also been offered a top tier contract by Penrith and the Tigers aren't matching it. Could be wrong, he could mean that Spence is on our top tier but seems a strange way of putting it either way. He could just come out and say yes or no re: Spence.

As for Santi this is not a good move. Santi would have been close to playing NRL this year let alone next year. He'll captain Parramatta by 2016 imo.

He'll look good running off Sandow's forward passes.

Many on here have enthusiastically referred to his ability, but when I watched him in the 20's all I saw was a worker like Hyland with some missed tackles in him.

One we would have liked to keep, but I am sure there are plenty of others happy to take his place.
