Croft could be worth a punt. Only issue is the price and contract length he might demand. It would be risky business to have him tied up on decent coin for more than two years. If we gave him half a season and he failed, we wouldn't want an anchor to our salary cap.
The issues Croft had in his past NRL attempt included:
- Decisions were often rushed
- Poor short kicking game
- Couldn't hold his own space in the defensive line
- Often tried to over-finesse attacking opportunities
Bellamy chopped him after 22 rounds in a regular season because he wasn't getting better, despite the fact that Melbourne were coming first on the ladder. He couldn't execute their structures properly and would often make basic mistakes. They had a gun team so were able to cover for all of his errors.
Perhaps he has improved. That remains to be seen. I would welcome him with open arms if he came on a one year contract. You could almost offer him an above market value contract for just a one year, but players want security, so I doubt that would eventuate.
