Brodie Croft

Heard today the Tigers are considering Brodie Croft. I would be interested at the right price. Jackson Hastings came back better, I didn't want Hastings to go but that is another thread. Your thoughts on bring Croft back ?

Always looked an unhappy player to me... Doesnt seem to enjoy his footy

If he couldn't excel at Brisbane or Melbourne what chance is he here?
I've been watching him at Salford and he's playing with a heap of confidence.
He just needs a coach like Benji that will pump him up. The Salford coach loves him. If we're considering Pearce or Sezer then we certainly should get Croft. He's going much better than them.

He is signed until 2030 though!

He was an inadequate replacement for one of the game's greatest ever halfbacks and then struggled in that trainwreck that was Seibold's Broncos.

I think he's worth taking a shot on. Could end up being a right footed Brooks. If we wanted to re-sign Brooks it would make sense to try and grab Croft.

Just like Hastings, Croft wouldn't be our best halves option if he was here this year, but he would probably shade Doueihi if here from next season.

A pass for me, but hey, this year WT already missed out on the best available from elsewhere and then let our best go through a ridiculously poor offer.

I would take him over Wakeham and Smith every day of the week. They are good backups but when there is NO ONE of top quality to sign he is worth a shot.

Can I ask on behalf of our coach: can he score 7 tries a match?
I think Croft is like Brooks but without the pace, seems slow to react and every move is telegraphed - he might have improved in the Old Dart (not sure) but at least he doesn’t have the NRL’s newest ‘most punchable head’ - that award goes to the Bulldogs hands down:

Croft could be worth a punt. Only issue is the price and contract length he might demand. It would be risky business to have him tied up on decent coin for more than two years. If we gave him half a season and he failed, we wouldn't want an anchor to our salary cap.

The issues Croft had in his past NRL attempt included:
  • Decisions were often rushed
  • Poor short kicking game
  • Couldn't hold his own space in the defensive line
  • Often tried to over-finesse attacking opportunities
Bellamy chopped him after 22 rounds in a regular season because he wasn't getting better, despite the fact that Melbourne were coming first on the ladder. He couldn't execute their structures properly and would often make basic mistakes. They had a gun team so were able to cover for all of his errors.

Perhaps he has improved. That remains to be seen. I would welcome him with open arms if he came on a one year contract. You could almost offer him an above market value contract for just a one year, but players want security, so I doubt that would eventuate.

Would you contemplate returning from another country, where you were awarded player of the year, have a nice long contract and are quite comfortable, to come back on a one year deal.
Are you insane !
Come on mate, you’re usually a lot sharper than that.

Since they let Brooks go they may as well hold out for a real organising half.

They may have to get creative and even look at luring someone already contracted.
