Both led and both played the clock down…. Tried to protect a lead
Constantly putting it into touch... Forgoing attacking chances... Cost them the ultimate prize.... Terrible gameplan by Bennett... Reminded me of 89.
Golden point and all... Eerie really

Would be more applicable to ask this on a Broncos forum…

Disagree a little. Milford makes a break in the 78/79th minute and plays footy instead of taking the tackle. So playing footy at the end is what cost the Broncos, not protecting a lead. Milford makes that break and takes the tackle Brisbane win easy.

Poor ol' Hunt couldn't find a hole to hide in.

Anyway the NRL got their second dream result. Who next year?

Agree 100%,, the bronks tried to play the clock down from 20min out and they also got a few 50/50 go their way. Do not get me wrong, their defence was fabulous, but they they did not go for the jugular when the game was there for the taking.

Fairy tale stuff for Thurston and the Cowboys but over 80 minutes the Bronks were probably the better side but like most of the league world i am happy for the Cows but more happy the Bronks lost

That's one single play compared to an entire gameplan

I suppose if you back yourself and your defence you make those calls Ink

They made the call and were about 3 seconds from getting it right

They were backing their defence which was the right thing to do. It was just one bad tackle and one desperate hail Mary that beat them.

they only started putting it into touch in the last 10.

they had no ball in the second half at all. bennet i thought tried to invigorate something by putting nikorima on but didnt work out.

NQ got no favours from the NRL IMO cqtiger. They won it on their own merits. As far as the comparison to Balmain '89 goes, cheating Bill Harrigon was Canberra's 18th man that day the dirty scumbag- Bennys missed fg was a heartbreaker and came down to a shitty toss of the coin. So glad NQ won tonight, was good to see a non-fixed gf after the Dragons, Roosters, Rabbits gifts of the last few years. Still buzzin after that game tonight! Great stuff

They had it… They lost it
They could've really put it out of reach.... They were well on top
They stopped playing footy = suicide

Their call led to three seconds.

A better call… Continuing to play footy and attack... Would more than likely have put it out of reach of Nq.

Their call kept Nq in it

Feel sorry for Hunt, but overall it was a breakout yr for him. He's definitely leap frogged DCE as next in line behind Cronk for QLD. His premiership will come for sure.

Hunt can be proud of his efforts throughout the year and hold his head high. Without the way he played all season the Broncos wouldn't have even been in the Gf.

That was a great game of footy. The sort of thing the power brokers in the AFL will be craving next year after their last 2 GF

Agree but I am glad Attacking football won again, NRL is such a sweet game when there is an attacking style not this boring defence style trend which is killing the game

I don't think Broncs lost it with their gameplan, they had relied on their flexible defence all year.

I think they got too tired, the Cowboys surged the last 20 and Broncos didn't have anything left when they had the ball. St George defended their way to the premiership in 2010: they beat us by kicking to the corners and defending the sets.

I also think that when it came down to trying to get the ball near the opposition's line at the end, Cowboys still had Scott, Tamou and Taumalolo going forward, particularly the later who had some massive carries. Broncos forwards struggled to work out of trouble, particularly with Blair and Thaiday as the match-ending props.

Sometimes footy plays out like tennis, you just need to hold your serve and hope your opponent gives you an opportunity on his. Cowboys held their serves in the last 20 mins, Broncos only dropped their last two serves, but it cost them.

Reed and Milford slid on Morgan for 79:50 of the game, no idea why Oates decided to come in hard on that last play and leave his winger, no way was Morgan going to beat both Milf and Reed to the line.

I was of the feeling that if extra time went 20 mins like in 1989, Cowboys would have finished all over the top of Broncos.
