Bronson Xerri eyes NFL switch after copping four-year drug ban from rugby league

Bronson Xerri is pursuing an NFL career after copping a four-year drug ban from the NRL.

The suspended Cronulla Sharks flyer, who tested positive to a cocktail of performance enhancers including anabolic steroids, has reached out to the management company (Pacific Sports Management) that helped Valentine Holmes launch an NFL bid. Nine NRL reporter Danny Weidler reported the news in his Sun Herald column.

Xerri, 20, would have a lengthy window to try cracking the NFL, which is not bound by the World Anti-Doping Agency code. He can't return to the NRL until 2024.

"His speed and bulk give him a hope of making it in the big time, but he knows the huge amount of work that would be in front of him. The obvious hurdles are that he is a complete novice at the sport and that his attempt comes at a time when international travel is particularly difficult," Weidler wrote.

Holmes made the New York Jets' practice squad during his foray into the NFL. Jarryd Hayne played eight games for the San Francisco 49ers after switching from the NRL.

He’d be a huge hit in the NFL , they run great lines there...here’s hoping we never see him in the NRL again

Would be hilarious if the NFL clubs still said no thanks we don't take drug cheats.

I thought bans were across all codes. Clearly I was wrong.
