Why is everyone so impressed, 550k a season? Definitely not worth that much at this stage.

Can't look at it like that. It's too simple. Have to weigh up what's available for 2018/19\. First grade starting halfback nowadays that will be their minimum wage going forward. He has 2 years to make it as an NRL half back. If not he will end up in ESL.

He's in the last chance saloon now with Cleary. If he doesn't improve from here its curtains.

When will they announce it? Will they wait till Woods and maybe Tedesco re-signs and announce them all together?

Moses is also a fine player and let's give them a chance under Cleary.

He'd have to be discounted heavily before it was worth risking signing him

That would be ideal but it seems he wants big bucks. I'm really over this obscene charade/grab for money.

That's why I wouldn't sign him, we only need one of them and I think Brooks has more improvement in him .
I don't know whether JT giving Moses a free pass to run the team was misplaced and he wasn't up to being that responsible. But he certainly isn't up to it IMO.

I was as vocal about getting rid of both of them as anyone was. But I think that Brooks was made
To take a second string role and he looked like he never knew what his job really was
We certainly can't throw the stupid amounts of money that they wanted , so one probably has to go.
If Moses does go, That's one crap defender gone , and if the rumours about Kevvie and Idris are right.then two more crook defenders will be gone.
Brooks will need serious coaching to improve his defence, but thats possible now, and if he needs a minder,it will be a lot easier to hide one person( as a lot of teams have to do)rather than 4 players. Just that alone will improve our defence
I just think that we can get a better outcome for less money with Brooks. Hopefully he's got two years to learn how to do that.

I think this was the only real option for Brooks.

Everybody seems to be putting a lot of faith in Cleary finally coaching Luke into a good halfback.
Will his tackling improve? It hasn't under the bevy of coaches he has had to date.
Will Cleary teach him when to run and when to pass? Really? Then Cleary and Brooks will need to be miked up every game.
I see Cleary continuing on from all other junior and senior coaches - reducing the mistakes in his game.

Don't get me wrong, Brooks must have talent to play first grade but if the coach is going to turn him into a star give me the coach that spent most time with Thurston.

This is the great unknown cq. However, as has been pointed out, there have been some great halves who have struggled defensively - Thurston at times is little more than a speed hump, Lockyer had major issues, Maloney isn't great, etc. However, these players had great protection around them and their team was/is generally able to cover the defensive lapses. Brooks, of course is no where near the standard of these guys in other aspects of his game, but he obviously has talent. He wasn't talked up as the next Andrew Johns for nothing. (And this ridiculous comparison wouldn't have helped him one little bit).
Cleary has a huge job on his hands, primarily getting the team as whole to work as a defensive unit. This is his major work - if he can do this, then Brooks' defensive frailties will be less significant.
What is nearly impossible to cover up is having both halves being poor defenders.
So for me, although Moses is an enormous talent, we can't afford to have both in the team. Unfortunately, (or fortunately), Brooks has put pen to paper first. Unless we can secure Mitchell at half of his asking price, I would withdraw the offer and use the money to go hard for some decent tough forwards.
I would love Woods to re-sign, (and Tedesco of course), but Woodsy needs some real tough nuts along side him to compliment his style of play. He will never be an aggressive dominating forward, but what he does do is get the team going forward, makes lots of metres and is obviously great around the playing group.
Anyway, interesting times ahead - as usual for us long suffering fans!

You can't teach someone to know exactly when to run and when to pass

As Watto would tell you a lot of it is based on instincts and are reacting to what the defence is doing and the state of mind of the defence

If you could teach it and earn dollars from it players like Lewis , Sterling , Fittler and Johns would be millionaires

My point exactly

If we miss one of the guns (bird Foran Widdop etc) look to the warriors blokes like hitango lolohea lino

TBH i think people are reading a bit much into Cleary being a "great man-manager and coach" because Brooks suppossedly has signed for less than initially requested, it had more to do with Brooks running out of options and also the "Cronk factor" moreso than Ivan's shrewdness you would think.
Good positive vibes flowing through WT this week at least, us supporters deserve something cheery!

I'd kill for Lolohea. If by chance Tedesco leaves I'd make a play for him and play him at 1.

Tedesco will sign. Moses will not. Woods will also sign.

That sounds pretty darn good to me! I originally wanted to keep Moses over Brooks, but like a few on here, I have changed my mind over the last few weeks.

Brooks seems like a humble, genuine bloke who would really love to stay with the club - good on him for realising he ain't worth millions, at this stage of his career, and signing on for a lot less than the figure that has originally been bandied around.

I sure hope Ivan can get the best out of him though because he still has a long way to go to become the consistently good, game-controlling half we need him to be. Perhaps with a the change of coach and some different personnel in the pack around him, this could actually happen. And personally, I think that a split from Moses will be better for both of them in the long run.

Woods is the heart and soul of this club, despite what some people on here think of him, and Tedesco…well he's just Tedesco and an absolute must keep!

Moses asking for an immediate release demonstrates petulance; obviously the revised offer has not gone down well. Brooks has demonstrated character in copping it on the chin and preparing himself to fight it out.

I'd be advising the Eels and Isaac Moses, our player is available as long as we can come to an agreement about a player we would require from the Eels in exchange.

As for player managers, how much commission do they receive on top of their client's contract for bringing a player to a new club?

Sadly he's no longer with us. Never won a comp from what I remember (made GF in 00 and again in 05, but we powered over his boys) but set some good things in place for both Roosters and Cowboys.

I agree but was chatting with a mate last week who didn't think much of Ivan as a coach next to JT. Though, I somewhat agreed on tactical ability, but on man management Ivan next to JT is like Bennett next to Ivan Henjak.

He was definitely recruited shrewdly by Gus, and given our very strong Kiwi contingent (Keebra Park, lots of Kiwi or Polynesian boys in the side), he could be very, very good given how he has gone with them at the Warriors and Panthers before.

That is an interesting comment SG. Does Moses want to stay and play under Cleary?

Uncle Benny's blood flows through Moses, he wants cold hard cash…

With the current offer, he will need a semi trailer to carry it. Really, I can't see him being too popular in the dressing sheds with such an inequality in income.

The latest media reports suggest he'll go to Parra, but I'd be surprised if they are prepared to offer more than the Tigers. His value is surely decreasing at the moment.

"Apparently" - Moses has asked for a release - effective "immediately" to go to parra
less money
beau scott as the body guard
corey norman as partner in crime
should be lad fest in the enth degree
eshay adlay parrrrrrrra

upside : shaun johnson is off contract 2018
could move to Sydney because of ivan cleary and bromance with Foran who should be at the dogs by then also . . . . . .
