Hooper: 7 million reasons why the Tigers need to offload Brooks… now
WESTS TIGERS

There are seven million reasons why the Wests Tigers need to end the Luke Brooks experiment.
Brooks, 25, is the hot shot local junior who the Tigers have been paying on potential for the past seven seasons.

The Wests Tigers halfback is currently signed until the end of 2023 but the way he’s played this season the club should mitigate the damages and cut their losses.

The $7 million figure comes from the amount of money the Wests Tigers are estimated to have invested in Brooks being the playmaker who can get them near the promised land until the end of 2023.

Brooks currently holds the unwanted record of having played the most number of games in the NRL without featuring the finals.

The Tigers playmaker has played 145 NRL matches across seven seasons in the NRL but the best the Tigers have done with him steering the ship is three 9th placed finishes.

It’s true Brooks has been playing behind an inferior forward pack and has endured four different coaches being turned over.

Irrespective, when the Tigers signed him to a four-year deal worth an estimated $3.5 million, the deal was Brooks needed to evolve into a dominant playmaker in the prime of his career.

Granted, the Wests Tigers halfback surprisingly won the Dally M halfback of the year in 2018.

Given what Cooper Cronk did for the Sydney Roosters that season, we’re tipping the judges might like that decision over.

Brooks still has three years to run on his contract at Concord but after another season of failure the Tigers should put him up for sale.

This is what Michael Maguire said at the time of Brooks re-signing at the end of 2018: “Luke is a well experienced half now and at the prime of being able to take all of the leanings to this point to a whole new level.

“Sitting down and talking to him about his game he’s hungry to learn and hungry to improve on where he’s at. He prides himself on his defence and obviously he’s very keen to learn the different styles of play that I’ve had experience with working with a number of halfbacks over a number of years.”

This is nothing personal but the Tigers need to allow Maguire to get a tomahawk out and reshape a roster which has become mired in mediocrity.

They’ll need to chip in for another NRL club to be interested but surely that’s a better option than allowing Brooks to suit up for an eighth straight season and missing the finals – again.

Just read the "7 million reasons why" article Hooper has written. Along with all the Brooks bashing on here, man I am so glad I'm not him right now. I can see that there are very valid reasons for thinking he's not the number 7 to take us to a premiership but I also look back on the last years at our club and for so many reasons he has been on a hiding to nothing. Probably get bagged for this, but I feel sorry for him right now as he has been one of the few to show a genuine love and loyalty for the Tigers through some pretty dark and crappy times.

He showed love and loyalty to the club who offered him an extremely well paid job?
Yeah nah.

Whenever I see Luke Brooks interviewed, he speaks with the confidence of a teenager having almost been 'caught' masturbating moments earlier. Probably by a parent. I'm sorry for the imagery but if you watch any interview back that he has done, it really does explain his temperament.

Presumably that same person dressed him for the Dally Ms:

He has never matured.

Interesting to see how Brooks reacts to the “$7 million reasons” article if he gets the chance to. Don’t think he’s ever been under the spotlight like this before.

I suspect he will crumble even further into the abyss.

I’m one of those who has always given Brooks the benefit of the doubt, but that’s all done now. I want Brooks out of the team . He will never be any good because it is now evident that he doesn’t want to.

Disgraceful post.

Admittedly I gave up on him years ago.
IMO at his best he was still really only good for 1 in 4 games at the most. By many of our fans’ standards that was actually considered positive.
And maybe it was, at least in comparison to the rest of the team.
But I held him in a higher regard and to a higher standard - perhaps because I had higher hopes. He killed it in the u20s and he was going to be our halfback for an era.
I can’t help but feel that it is just such a great shame that he never came on like we so desperately hoped.
