After watching brooks play last week, it was clear that he really has a long road ahead of him. not that he had a bad game so much, but the little things that he done show he is a long way off been a top class 1/2 back, and i hope that the club get a top class 1/2 coach to help him over the off season and into next year.
just a coule of things i picked up was his kicking game late into the 2nd half fell away , also he broke the line and throw a no look pass inside, i notice he does that a lot. he also was very slow up in the last broncos try and made little or no effort to get back into the line and when he did make a effort it was to late, and they scored. i know it is little things and he is only a kid but he needs someone to work with him and i hope the club give that support
 
As Sheens used to say, one thing I tend to agree with him on:

"Youre not a first grader until youve played 50 games"

Brooks will have his ups and downs, possibly more downs than ups in a team thats re-building, he'll be under enormous pressure from all quarters, most whom have little to no patience these days.
 
Be quiet.

Anyone who's watched the NYC knows all key players have good and bad times as very few players a consistent at this level. Sometimes backs who don't have to do much but break the line and score tries.

The combined average points scored in a NYC game is about 70 per match. No teams can defend. No halves are consistent.

Brooks is by far the best half in the comp, and the 2nd best, Cornish, also had a pretty average game against the dogs.

No young half is brilliant 100% of the time. The majority of people have the sense not to expect this, especially at the age of 18!

It could take a few years for him to be consistent and if he does that at NRL level then he'd be banging on the door for Origin. That's still a looong way off, but the players considered for those games are those who are consistently good. Halves at teams at the bottom of the NRL ladder usually aren't as consistent and their teams suffer as a result. NYC level is about learning only.
 
Dunno why, but 50 doesn't sound like a lot of games. Then you realise that's 2 entire seasons and even someone like Siro or Teddy don't have 50 combined…
 
Yeah noticed all that. He does seem to drop off a bit in the 2nd half. I thought he was out on his feet but he still made that break through the middle (then threw a pass to nobody).

My biggest concern was how heavily he relied on Mulchalcy. Our attack looked lost without Mulchalcy late in that game. In fact it was he who ran on the last and created the overlap for the game winner.

Going to be essential to have the best 6 outside him next year, just not sure who that is.
Anasta has the experience but not the deft touch anymore.
Sirro has the presence and can cart the ball but doesn't have that extra bit of speed usually needed in the halves.
Austin is very much an unknown element for me and then there is
Moltzen who imo on his best day has all the attributes required and seems the perfect fit outside Brooks but he is just far to inconsistent the majority of times.
Ultimately I hope Potter lets them fight it out and the best man gets the gig, but hopefully Moltzen spends the whole offseason training in the halves as he can cover 6 or 7.
 
I thought that Mulchalcy was excellent. Does anyone know what our plans are with him? He appears to be a dark horse, is reliable, dangerous in attack.

He might be the one that pops up whilst Moses and Brooks get all the accolades. Would like to see him in State Cup.

YES IT WAS GOOD OF U TO PICK UP THAT MULCHALY WAS ONE DOING MOST OF THE DONKEY WORK AND MAYBE HE IS A BETTER PLAYER THAN WE GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR, JUST MAYBE HE IS AS GOOD AS BROOKS.

Probably a case of his physical build with Mulchalcy, even though he'd be similar weight to Moses and Brooks. Seemed to handle the defense reasonably well in that game but haven't seen much of him all year long.

Was a major factor in last years finals too from what I saw. Its such a shame to see footballer overlooked for an athelete as it goes these days.

Not saying he hasn't got a future in the NRL but if it was still the 5m rule or the interchange was reduced there'd be a place for these guys.
 
It's Mulcahy guys. Come on give the kid the respect of at least checking how to spell his name.

Mulcahy is one of those guys with a streak to him. He just coasts along not doing much right or wrong and then all of a sudden WHOOSH he makes a break and a try is born. Payten said that he mistook his relaxed nature for a lack of enthusiasm. I am a fan of the kid. He's a big moment player. I hope we re-sign him.
 
As I said somewhere before, for the football fans out there, Mulcahy seems like the NYC equivalent of Zinedine Zidane. Does little of note for most of the season but then come business end, he lights up and becomes a big time player.

Mulcahy was awful v the Roosters/Souths a few weeks back.
 
Brooks is a kid making mistakes that kids make.
He is a super talent but won't rip up first grade week in week out and will make mistakes.
Mulcahy IMO is unlikely to be a first grader, he has been in and out of Nyc for the last 2 years, players that do that very rarely go on.
 
I dunno what the point of this thread is?

Brooks has had quite a few quiet games this season but shown in time he will be a special player. He's 18.

people on here praising Mulcahy? he's been average this year
 
I hope nobody actually takes these comments seriously… U guys have absolutely no idea what your talking about..

its really simple. If brooks is not in the team they don't win. That mulchaey bloke would do stuff all without brooks in the team.

Brooks set up a try with a kick and scored a try himself and you one minded people can only point out he had a bad game?

its clear brooks will be the new whipping boy from benji. You guys are a joke.
 
A lot of people think he is going to walk into FG next year and be a super star. Not going to happen, with plenty of hard work and plenty of luck he will be a class no7 in about two years but over the next couple of years it will be rocks and diamonds.Although one thing will happen in FG, he will be surrounded by quality players and that will make life easier,I just get the feeling Brooks will go better as the standard of game gets higher

the reason for the thread was not to have a go at brooks at all u ???? it was to say that he will need to have a 1/2 back coach to iron out a few problems and that the club need to help him with a andrew johns or a fittler. get of ur high horse and read the thread for what it says not what u think it says.

Sheens said it was 100 until you're a first grader. Which is a fair assessment.

Really looking forward to next year, but I'm not expecting our new halfback to set the world on fire straight away. I'll be happy with our guys finding their own rhythm, playing with structure and not waiting till the last 15mins before clicking into gear with some arsy play.

God I hope Potter and his new coaching staff can toughen our club up. At times mentally we can be weak as XXXX Gold.

Correct me if i'm wrong but our two starting props were out of that game.

We never had a hope and it is certainly hard for a 7 to stand out behind a losing pack.
