Brown unlikely to be FB or have a starting position next yea

whilst i rate brown as a quality player i dont see him getting a starting spot next year.

i realise a lot of people on here believe he deserves a crack at fb next year but i just dont see that happening.
brown is rated by sheens as the 3rrd best fb in our side behind mckinnon and moltz. so personally judging by his pecking order i dont see any reason why a coach would release his first 2 choice fullbacks to allow the 3rd choice to be the starting fullback it doesnt make sense does it
that would appear to be a downgrade through sheens perspective of the best options.
i also see it as unlikely that reddy and grant werent lured over here on a little bit of coin(probably more than any depth player would recieve) and it it is likely that they will be given starting spots

the way i see it the battle for fb is between all the ctw:
lote - unlikely to be moved as left edge is lethal
lawrence - unlikely to be moved as left edge is lethal
reddy - possibility as played juniors at fb
ayshford - unlikely to move from centre if so it will be into the forwards
brown - 3rd choice now(see above)
ryan - playing excellent lately, possibility but unlikely similar to brown
grant - 100kg + fast, defence??? possibility
tedesco- possibility, still young though and hasnt played many games

back on brown- sheens doesnt appear to rate him as much as some of us do, the fact he cant get the start over utai in the centres is questionable. utai has been poor and IMO brown has been very strong lately especially at left centre.
brown deserves that spot whilst lawrence is out and is a vastly underated very solid and consistent playe(he just seems to lack a bit of spark)

i guess we will have to wait till next year or until we sign slater  (i wish)

It would be interesting to know why Sheens rates Brown as back up material only. Last year in the final series he was outstanding against quality sides. At the start of the season we all expected him to get first shot at the no1 or even a chance on the wing but he was relegated behind quite a few players. Sheens must have some reasons that are not obvious to the people in the arm chairs at home

i'm not too sure
personally i also rate moltz better Fb but that isnt to say that at certain times in the year he didnt deserve to have a crack through injury at the FB Spot

Moltzen had a great game last week, but his efforts when wearing the no1 jumper in the past have been scratchy at best. He is a confidence player so I expect him to get better, but his earlier efforts this year were poor

I was actually going to start a thread about Brown and Utai in 2012, anyone got any info on what's going on with them?

Normally by now we know what's happening with a player for the next season.

Personally I really hope we keep both.

You would think that with the departures mid season (and questionable form) on top of Brown's form at the end of last year, If he were to have a shot at fullback he would have already had it.
It looks as tho sheens will continue to use Brown as a "utility" off the bench and a stop gap to fill in for injuries or suspension.
Brown found some good form at the end of last year and it's a shame he hasn't been given the chance to try and recapture that form.

I get the feeling Brown will attract at bit of interest from other clubs, Sharks have been linked to him and Gus always gives him a plug when calling tigers games. I think their are a lot of teams that could find a permanent position for Brown in their 17 especially as he would on a mid range contract

i cant really name many teams at all where he would slot in
i think he wants a mid range contract but all he is offerred is a depth style contract

Brown as far as i'm aware is on board for next year - Over the last couple of weeks he was interviewed with the view of being in the squad next year - its in the last paragraph or so.

- His words, not mine, or the interviewers.

There was a rumour on here that Brown had signed with the Tigers, but have not heard anything official about him signing a new contract with the tigers yet. Also in the paper late last week the tigers were talking with Daniella & Utai for next year.

It will be a sad day for our club if we let this bloke go ! and he can even kick goals, bravo Mitch ! I'm a huge fan of this guy. Hopefully if we can't find a permanent spot for him next season, he will stay on as a bench player. But I will say Mitch Brown- fullback 2012 !

Only one guy will be considered to start at fullback next season..that wld be a current winger with the wooden spoon candidate..Reddy.
Grant mite get there mid season if he excels early, but Brown hasnt been considered this year so nothing will be different next year.Brown is considered solid & safe, but reality is he doesnt have a lot of attack/support play for a modern f/b
It was a brave move by Sheens to punt three fullbacks(admittedly all marginal) & recruit not one specialist in that position.

There could be up to four players - Utai, Brown, Reddy and Grant - competing for two spots fullback and bench. Then there are injuries which will need to be covered. I'd like to see Brown stay and be in that mix - it was also a cracking conversion last night!

Tedesco might be the real deal and hopefully the long term no 1 but he is still way too young for a permanent spot, even for 2012.
