Brutal Reality - We lack talent

Cleary should and will be judged on this year. He's built his side and as such the results lay with him, especially when he had so much of the cap at his disposal.

X2

He chose to spread the cap accross depth rather than marquees. Lets see how it plays out.

Laughable statement.

Which marquees did Ivan knock back?

Beggars cant be choosers.

Everyone is for sale if you really want them… Even you!

Seems like most 'experts' have us finishing around 12th and big Del has us getting the spoon.

I think we are better than the Warriors, Dogs, Titans, Souths, Knights, Raiders.
That places us 10th but if Manly and the Panthers fail for off field reasons you never know your luck.

^^ fair enough ^^

True that

But I wonder if he doesn't meet those simple KPI's that many Forum members will ignore that Taylor has achieved more with far less at his disposal ….......

I actually think our roster when JT artived at our club and their mindset was far superior to what he left Cleary.
That doesn't mean Cleary will escape beling judged. He has been judged from moment he took the job and that wont change - success or no success.

My god some of you need to get over the criticism leveled at Jason Taylor. He was all talk and couldnt deliver.

Instead of sharpening the knives build a bridge.

Cleary has already changed the culture more than Taylor ever did. Long term we are in a very good place because of the changes he has already made.

Hang on, I just thought we needed a quality coach to attract marquee players?

We need more then that.

A quality coach helps.

There are a few people here that clearly cant get over it.

And instead of talking directly about it they talk through Cleary and will jump on him with any failures to try and justify their JT love without directing mentioning JT.

JT won't be returning to the NRL any time soon as a Head Coach. If Ivan got turfed from here I reckon he would still get offers elsewhere as a HC.

I’m not jumping on him, I’m a big fan. I said years ago he was the most underrated coach in the game. Who else has ever gotten anything out of the Warriors. But there is a lot of hypocracy atm. When the former coach was here, everyone was adamant that he was the reason we could not attract anyone. Despite the fact we didn’t have two sticks to rub together. Cleary had the whole cap at his disposal the day he was appointed. Of course he was better off in that regard.

I think Cleary is the second best coach in the Wests Tigers history. Sheens is number 1 without a doubt and only lost his lustre because he let the inmates start to run the asylum.

I know it’s early days but Cleary will steer this joint in the right direction. I’m not expecting miracles this year but I’m confident that Cleary will certainly improve this team. Anyway I hope Cleary goes good enough to get re-signed - that’ll be a miracle in itself at this club.

Fingers crossed

Its so obvious Eddie.

Thing is Cleary has never put down the club, he has never made outlandish statements that he cant back up and as far as i know he has not said one bad thing about Jason Taylor.

We have a much classier coach this time.

I think the way he came in and eliminated the big 4 crap is something he doesn’t get a lot of credit for. For whatever reason, JT seemed to allow that mentality that no doubt fed the egos of a few ex players.

Exactly Patriot.

JT was a smart guy but a goose and he was not respected by all players.

In my opinion. Other people see it differently.

Play on.

Cleary doesnt create drama JT on the other hand surrounds himself in it pours petrol on it and sets it alight.

You really believe I thought he was a success? Saying anything remotely defending JT, or offering a different take on the circumstances why he failed is seen as being a JT lover. Of course he failed. Our defence was still atrocious the day left. So what if he made “outlandish” statements. He was trying to turn the club around wasn’t he? No idea why he gets criticised for it. It’s like some believe he was here to sabotage the place. The hate for him was personal for a lot of people.

Before I finish, let me restate from my previous post, I have always been a fan of Cleary, and was immediately on board the day he took over. Any perceived criticism I have given him has nothing to do with him. It’s the the sudden change of tune some people on here have suddenly taken. Bagging the squad, yet not the guy who put it together. Or what he said after the Sharks trial. JT would have been run out on a rail. Granted, Cleary has not gotten the supporters noses out of joint remotely close to the way JT did, but it is early in his tenure and our supporters are fickle. A few team lists get named and the fire breathers will be warming up I’m sure.
