I was told today by the president of a South Coast club that he will be playing for Wests Illawarra with Jason Ryles being the captain coach .,., Thats a decent front row for a South Coast team.

IMO contracts should not be allowed to be back-loaded. If a player has signed a 5 year contract for $2.5 million then his payments should strictly be paid in equal instalments of $500k per season.
This would stop the rort of say Gasnier from a few years ago when he was reportedly playing for $70k or so and he helped the Drags win a premiership that season, there is just too much scope for dodgy dealings when players are being acquired this way by clubs.

If a club cannot afford to fit all of it's stars under the salary cap by paying their contracts evenly for the term of their contract then they have to let a few players go, tough luck. That way it would help spread the talent around between the clubs as well instead of the current situation where teams like the Rorters stockpile talent and (supposedly) have to deal with the consequences in the years to come.

How much was SBW supposedly playing for this season?…..probably $100k :unamused: :deadhorse:

Creative accounting at it's finest and shonkiest.

Every club does it FTB

Darren Lockyer's biggest contract was supposedly $250k with the third party deals

The problem is becoming who has the best benefactors prepared to offer third party deals

Without a doubt every club does it Happy but it just doesn't seem right that a top-shelf player can be squeezed into a team under a paltry 1st year contract. That is why whatever the term of your contract, the money should be paid out evenly for those years.

If we get to the stage where the biggest bankroll produces the best teams (as it is on the verge of now) I am sure plenty of people will be disgusted and driven from supporting the NRL IMO. As they should be. The EPL soccer is a joke for that very reason. Sure it has all the money in the world but if it is the case of only 3 or 4 powerhouse teams win the championship every year then what is the point of having the other teams in the comp….their greatest thing to aspire to is fighting off relegation.
