**‘I’m not giving up’: Storm boss will ‘fight hard’ to keep Grant and both Smiths**
The entire Melbourne Storm fanbase, is waiting with bated breath for Cameron Smith’s decision on his future.
But none more than Brandon Smith and Harry Grant.
The Storm skipper is expected to come to a decision before a board meeting next Tuesday. The 37-year-old has the option to play on with Melbourne, join another club or retire and his next move will have a huge impact on Brandon Smith and Grant — the club’s hooking heirs.
Grant, who return’s to the Storm at season’s end from a swap deal with the Tigers, has a clause in his contract that allows him to gain a release if Smith plays on, while Brandon Smith’s manager has formally informed the Storm his client will also want a release if his namesake remains playing with the Storm.
It looks all but certain Melbourne will lose at least one of the three classy hookers, however Storm chair and co-owner Matt Tripp says he will “fight hard” to keep all three.
“***To suggest that Cameron playing on means those two are going to leave, it’s fanciful. That is not the case,” Tripp told The Sydney Morning Herald*** .
“***I will fight hard to get creative as we have always been able to do in any business that I’ve been involved in***.”
***Tripp believes there is a way to find room for all three hookers to play a role in the side***.
“***You need to think outside the box. There is a way through. If you can’t combat hurdles that are put in front of you, you’re in the wrong game***.
“***No hurdle is insurmountable and this certainly is a scenario where they could complement each other very well in the same side. That’s something we need to work out in the next week or so***.”
But he’ll leave the logistics to the best coach in the game, Craig Bellamy.
“That’s not a call for me, that’s a call for Craig,” Tripp said when asked how three hookers could fit into one team.
“But I’m not giving up. If Cameron decides to play, I’m not giving up on all three being in the same side.”
LOL Let's get creative hahahahahahahahah
