Campbelltown Stadium/Leichhardt Oval Thread

The extra 5,000 seats at Campbelltown doesn't mean the capacity will increase by that amount.

You can see some of the stadium renovations at - http://bigpondvideo.com/NRL_Tigers/221278" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I walked past LO about 2 weeks ago and they were setting up containers and other things behind the grandstand. I then saw the proposed picture of the works and there seemed to be just an extension of the main grandstand around to the Keith Barnes stand. Sorry, don't have any other details but assume most of it would includ corporate and media but it should also increase the seating.

Thanks for that, the seating entirely around the perimeter will give the ground that final 'professional' touch it has lacked in the past imo. Will look great once finished I think.

You mean the Latchem Robinson and Keith Barnes stands will be joined?

looks like they are keeping a 70's feel with that extension… nice!

next step is to increase the strength of the load-bearing supports and we'll be set for a grandstand expansion (if only)

Sounds like they are turning it into a nursing home.

Does it say when the beds are turning up?

They have got to be kidding. Nathan Rees is prepared to give the Afl 45million for that Western Sydney Afl stadium and is neglecting the sporting stronghold in this state Rugby league and its supporters

No he isn't, that's just what the AFL requested. They were never going to receive that funding: http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/afl/the-deal-is-off/story-e6frexx0-1225803466695" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

WELL I HAVE LIVED IN THE AREA ALL MY LIFE AND CAMPBELLTOWN STADIUM (FIELD OF DREAMS) HAS DEFINATELY CHANGED OVER THE YEARS

ahhh the good old days… 1988 I think. Look how small the Leagues Club was then, and with the Mighty Magpies on it! I remember!

1988 I think this is. I remember this. Kids from local schools came. I am one of the little kids in yellow in these photos.. Look the eastern hill before the stand!

them 2 wooden stands! on the northern end. Cost of a general admission ticket (which was around $10 for an adult in those days) plus an extra 2 bucks for the wooden stand.

You would be surprised how much it cost turning a cow paddock into a first rate athletics field.

If anyone is in the area and has the time some pics of the upgrade would be appreciated :slight_smile:

Found this pic on the porject companys website -

Shows the area behind the Western Stand, lift, corporate facilities etc

Nothing exciting but its something I guess.

More info from Council minutes 13/10/09 - http://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/upload/cqqew87592/CGAgenda091013.pdF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Federal Government has committed $8 million to upgrade the Campbelltown Sports Stadium by early 2010\. The upgrade will include additional seating and amenities to the spectator areas, lift access to all levels of the western grandstand as well as upgrades to corporate facilities, players change areas, media, catering and toilet facilities.
Construction commenced in mid 2009 with the main focus being the new seats around the playing field, construction of a 200,000 litre water harvesting tank, air conditioning to the eastern grandstand and the concrete slab construction of the new players change rooms and function room. The project is expected to be completed by March 2010.
>
Council has received approval from RailCorp to commence the construction of a pedestrian overbridge over the rail corridor, to link the Campbelltown Stadium directly to the carparks on the western side of the rail line, to improve access to the stadium. Works are anticipated to commence in early 2010.

SO THIS IS SEPARATE FROM THE 8 MILLION GRANT IS IT.

I think those stands originally where from Orana Park, moved to Lidcombe and then back to Orana Park when the Magpies moved to Campbelltown.

The construction of a pedestrian over-bridge is separate from the 8 mill funding. This was funding was approved years ago and was held up by State Rail.

They should make that large carpark over the other side of the railway line a multi level carpark. Then everyone would be able to get a parking spot easily.
