All the media today are saying they're a chance to challenge for the premiership … Can't help but laugh! They're only a slim mathematical chance of making it! Laurie Daley is backing them too (surprise surprise).

What's even funnier is Josh Dugan said they've beaten every side in the top 8 - did he somehow forget the two times we beat them?!

Well if Canberra make the top 8 they are a chance. They are on 26 points. If they win their next 2 games they are in the top 8 for sure. I reckon they'll smash North Queensland in Canberra next weekend. The week after that they play Brisbane in Brisbane. That could be a tough match.

Brisbane might not even make the top 8\. Brisbane are on 26 points and they play NZ in NZ next week.

I may have missed the Dugan quote - but Campese definitely said that they'd beaten all the top 4 teams and I just thought - what a **EDIT BY MODS**…

They arent yet mentally strong enough… Teams like Souths, Eels and possibly Newcastle would be more suited to Finals football this year.

2011 could be there year though!!!

Its all about momentum and at present their on a roll, but hard to see them being able to maintain that roll for another month with every game being life or death. They are not far away from being a great football team but I think 2011 will be their year to make the eight

They are more then a 'slim mathematical chance'. If they beat the Cowboys and Brisbane (both of who are struggling) then they are in the top 8 regardless of other results. They are playing well and have a bit of the 2009 Parramatta look to them. I can't see them winning the competition but all of this talk doesn't surprise me.

Slim mathematical chance? They're in 9th spot, only out of the 8 on f/a, with a game against the 8th place Broncos in Round 26, they win both games, they ARE in the 8, no ifs or buts about it.

As for their chances, out of all the teams below Easts on the table (7th place down), Canberra worry me the most.

Nothing "mathematical" about their chances at all. They're currently 9th on points difference and play the Cowboys at home and the Broncos in Brisbane. They win both and they're in. So as they say they "control their own destiny" and don't have to "rely on other results".

The only other team who still has a realistic chance of getting in is the Rabbits, due to their positive PD. But they play the Eels and Dragons and I don't fancy them winning both of those games. There are some big games remaining on the schedule but if the Warriors beat the Broncos on Friday all the others below them will be scrapping it out for 8th place.

only thing against their favour is the warriors play the broncos this week, meaning neither of those teams will go without a win so it makes canberra's assignment just that little bit harder. that's what i was trying to get at.

Yes but despite the result between Warriors and Brisbane.. If they win both matches they are 100% guarented a spot in the finals.. And considering there players the Cowboys in Canberra this week as far as Im concerned they are big chances of making the finals.

Canberra sitting 8th now, can move up to 7th tomorrow if results go their way. Pretty good for a side with a 'slim mathematical chance' of making the 8\. They are a real darkhorse for the title.

I think if they get past the first week of the finals they are a real contender.

Remember the way the finals series is formatted, if Canberra win in the first week of finals, they will get a home semi the following week.

I would not like to be the the team that has to go down there for a final and going by the way the table is, that team could very well be us if we slip up in week 1, like how the Dragons slipped up last year and were forced to go to Brisbane for week 2.

*eating humble pie*

must say though, they've had the bulldogs, sharks and cowboys in their last 6 rounds, pretty favourable draw. however they've also come up against the dragons and panthers.

let's see next week if they're the real deal.

If Canberra beat Brisbane in Brisbane next week, watch out. They will almost certainly play St George and they have dealt it to them twice this year. They easily have the best forward pack in the comp. With Campese (and even their young half mcrone) and Dugan firing they could roll any team. The raiders problem is that when they lapse, and they generally do once a game, they can get 20 point put on them in 20 mins. I think they should be a force in 2011.

Agreed that their forward pack is one of the best, but I feel they lack the fire power in the halves/hooker to be able to take advantage of it. You really need at least 3/4 of your 1,6,7,9 to be strong players, and at the moment they've only got a 1 and a 6.

hate them hate them hate them hate them!! what else can I say?? oh I hate them!

it shows how pathetic the Mcintyer system is if you finish 8th you can get home games in the semis!!!

rewarding lower placed teams who play for 2 months of the year is stupid
