Cannonball tackles

Are the NRL actually going to get this crap out of the game? There were at least 5 in the second half by the bunnies players that were let go. It's going to take a torn ACL/broken leg for the NRL to finally get this out of the game.

Entirely depends on whether or not the torn ACL/broken leg happens to a media darling player like inglis or to someone they couldn;t care less about.

It is a dog tactic for sure. The bloke isn't going anywhere and is already held. It never happened in the old days when everyone tackled around the legs.

Having seen plenty of Souths this season, this is indeed a coaching tactic. What concerns me most is how late the guy going low comes in at. Generally it only happens when the tackle becomes a struggle. The extra man comes in to support his defence by taking out the legs to complete a tackle.

Those Burgess boys always seem to find themselves at the bottom of a tackle doing a cannonball.

The cannonball is bad but I am more concerned where the player stands next to the tackle and dives hard at the side of the knee when it becomes available. Far more calculating and worrying.

If proper technique was rewarded it wouldn't be anywhere near as big an issue

Burgess boys also look like they are always going in with a kiss with the tackles with the way they always force their heads and foreheads down on opposition players, not quite a headbutt but enough to rile up the opposition
