We've got some good young talent in this team and it deserves the best coaching. I hope Maguire is looking at this issue.

The coach doesn’t make you drop the ball continually and give away idiotic penalties. You could see they really needed some big front towers today as well. Grub’s not ready for first grade after that performance and Talou started strong and then made a mistake every time he touched the ball. Hard to watch.

Grub looked the most likely all game, and his game was better than what Benji dished up on Thursday night

Compare apples with oranges. That was against a CC side. Didn’t look all that likely.

@mike
Bruh why are you so negative against our team😂 that was not a penalty...soft as they come

Because they need to learn discipline. That’s what cost them the game, not the refs.

Not apples and oranges, Benji made under 10 mistakes on Thursday night, the media love for him is disgraceful, he was ordinary, his place in the team should not be a given, he needs a reality check

I sort of agree and disagree at the same time..he also did some good things that contributed to our win amongst the mistakes

I'll just ask why doesn't Maguire see this because Benji doesn't pick himself..so it appears it just not the media

He’s not the only one.

Smith - Very solid under the high ball, not overly involved in attack
Bradley - don't think he was passed or kicked the ball once all game. Absolute rubbish to completely ignore our leading try scorer.
Heleta - Rarely seen all game
Talau - scored a great try and made a nice break or two. Dangerous running the ball. As we fell behind he tried to do too much and made mistakes. Hopefully he learns and gets this out of his system at this level.
Maarbani - Solid, scored a good try and should definitely be starting every week.
Reynolds - Rocks and diamonds. One or two good kicks, some nice runs, but also a fair bit of aimless wandering around the field
Madden - Some nice long and short kicks, shows a good understanding of that part of the game, but still didn't really organise the forwards or get the ball to the backs. Not easy with a Ron Massey squad though
Siolo - Rarely seen
Robson - Hot and cold, some poor passes from dummy half but also some great runs and great try.
Faatui - Rarely touched it
Garner - Minimal impact other than giving away penalties
McQueen - one of his best games for the magpies, some very strong runs, but still has too many stupid errors and penalties in his game
Rochow - Invisible

McIntyre - Solid impact off the bench
Seyfarth - did ok off the bench, made tackles and metres but again with the stupid and unneccessary penalties. he needs to get that out of his system.
Luke - Hardly sighted
Miller - Awful. His absurd strip in a 3 man tackle gave them field position to put them two tries up.

In the end we played well from about the 25th minute to the 55th minute and were fairly diabolical otherwise. A combination of too many plodders and a complete lack of a game plan will kill off this team's chances of finals footy.

Even if he doesn't deserve it on form young Henry LP needs to be promoted to the bench. He's a dev player, and supposedly an impact prop. He can't be worse than the muppets currently in the team!
Cini and Dillon could also get a call up. Defence and size the issue there. But there's not rushing them on one hand, but also having highly unskilled players with our other dev boys in CC is harming their chances of playing well. They're the stars of a crap Flegg team, put them with other more talented players hope they can all work off one another.

@balmain-boy OK - agree we don't have a great Flegg team but I wouldn't call them "crap"! I would say "inconsistent" given they have beaten quite comprehensively the Raiders and Souths recently. They also almost knocked off Newcastle. Certainly they are going better than last year. Problem is you don't know what you're going to get from them and from what I've seen in Flegg results this year, apart from Cronulla, anybody can win on their day.

There is talent there which is what Lamkins is trying to bring out.

Let's not write the squad off particularly after the way they turned up yesterday.

They should be given encouragement at least.

Nothing much to see there for this year.
Whole squad and coaching need urgent overhaul.
Possibly couple of guys that may shine with some younger more talented and energetic players around them.
We seem to be on the right track with the purchases to date for a better performance over next few years.
But it all comes down to better coaching, retention & recruitment and building right pathways for the juniors from our vast catchment area.
This area has been neglected for years and the club need to make that a priority. These lower grades underpin our development of the first grade squad and on current results our efforts can only be described as total failure.

One thing that was notable watching the game live was that we were slow across the park, especially moving the ball, Rochow just retire, Siolo no impact etc..... a few years ago in the juniors Talau Bradley and Dillon played in the same side and they are winners, throw in cini and this should be our backline for next year in cc. Got to give a big wrap to Felix smith from Jersey Flegg, best forward on the park by a mile on the weekend, good hits, good to see you launch yourself to cause some damage in defence, blokes started running away from you on kick returns, making them miss there spots on the field and disrupting there attack, good boy.

Can Hodgson coach or not?

Serious question.

Yep good question, good players does not mean they make good coaches. I assume Madge will review all this at the end of the comp as I assume he inherited all this from Cleary.

i just havent heard the right things from the right people to suggest he can coach.

Imo Farah will make a good coach,Benji not so much. Comes down to personality and mentality of the individual not so much quality of the player.
