Centres & Wingers Off Contract 2014

If there isn't much quality out there (with the exception of Copley) I would rather they groom from within…..certainly cheaper short term. In all honestly i think our centres will be Simona and Austin/moltzen till we develop seve

I certainly hope not - doesn't instill a lot of confidence in defence with Brooks, Moses, Austin, Moltzen and Simona. Imagine the missed tackle counts with that backline - we'll be counting in tens not single digits!!

The only position we need any players in is wing/ centre. We do have Milone, Seve in Under 20s, Hoeter coming up next year along with Taukafa and FIne in NSW cup who I believe are coming up in grade next year to top 25 contracts.

I still think we need a winger to add some depth

Shannon Walker wants to come back to NRL next year.
If you've seen him play 7s he's very fast and has good footwork too. Could be worth a go.
He is mostly a fullback but could be an option elsewhere in the backline.
With a bit of time in NSW Cup he could turn out to be quite good. He certainly has some potential but is already 25..

When where in the market for a certain position, if we don't already have a decent option in our ranks, you try to go and buy someone who has a name, who is a specialist, some quality. In all positions we should have 1 rookie and 1 specialist.
For example

1\. Teddy
2 Nofo
3\. Simona
4\. ENTRE THE MARKET
5\. ENTRE THE MARKET
6\. Moses
7\. Brooks
8\. Woods
9\. Farah
10\. ENTRE THE MARKET
11\. Blair
12\. ENTRE THE MARKET
13.

Hit submit by accident

14\. Taupau
15\. Sue
16\. Ava
17\. Gavet

This way you can afford to cover all bases. What we've got is neither here nor there, ultimately stuck with guys that can't take us forward. You won't fill all the position in the off season but it's a start.
We don't really need, Lawrence, Richards, Galloway, Thompson and Halatau. Apart from Richards being a goalkicker, we don't really need these guys and a few others. Stack Reggie's with young blood and keep a core of 6 or 7 names in there with them for their development and back for first grade, but ultimately you only need one specialist in certain positions. It's not hard, we just make it look hard. Look at Farah for example, will we win a comp with this squad, nup. If we where to release Farah, you could pick up a quality dummy half for $300k, a good prop for $350k and you've still got $350k to spend.
You can't keep the Ferrari if you can't pay the insurance and rent, just plain stupid.

Folau would be the greatest signing EVER but can't see it happening. The Rugby world cup is in 2015 and surely he wouldn't possible consider league until after that.
We should try for 2016\. That would be a coup!
In the meantime, what about Carlos Tuimavave? He was talked up as the next big thing yet can't crack the Warriors and has had only limited run in first grade (albeit a little underwhelming).
Otherwise, I am all for Copley and Robinison.
What about poaching from ESL or Rugby Union? Joel Monaghan? Ma'a Nonu?

Some papers are saying we are after a cheap centre (probably to do the job until seve is ready) with Dominique Peyroux from the warriors/titans being mentioned as well as Peter Mata-utai from the dragons. Peter Mata Utai would be a very good signing (has a massive wrap on him) but apparently has five clubs including the bulldogs chasing his services. Folau would be a God send but not very unrealistic unfortunately :frowning:

Kevin Locke wants back in the NRL…would be a very good depth signing IMO

Depth signing? He would be a walk up start in most teams, very skilful player

Chanel Mata'utia still hasn't re-signed for Newcastle. I don't think he'll be there again next year with McManus, Uate, Sione, Leilua, Mamo probably all ahead of him in his spots.

He would be a pretty handy addition to our side.

We won't sign anyone of note , at best we might pick up a NSW Cup player

Part of me is giving up on this club doing anything positive this season

Wes Naiqama has now gone to London Broncos who are playing in the Championship which is worse than the NSW Cup….go figure when we cant even get a player like this on board.
Can t see anyone coming on board for next season.

Were we ever in the running for the bloke? Doesn't seem like the sort of player that would bring much to the club, and we've already got one of those in Lulia.

Wes is far quicker than Lulia , a pretty good back up goal kicker and can play anywhere from 1-5

And yet has never held down a consistent spot in the NRL. Don't get me wrong, I like the bloke, I just don't think he's the sort we should be in the market for.

Wes is garbage.
He's probably better than Lulia though.
and his brother is way better.

@Macdougal,
Read the raiders are chasing Uate,
He'll probably say no though.

Matautia boys will be looked after.

I find it strange the hostility against Lui for bashing his partner, and rightly so, but then there is interest in a highly overrated Naiqama who if I recall did a similar thing. Glad he has gone to the UK as his brother is a much better prospect.

Violence against women should never be tolerated, i agree " Tigersmurf" the reason for the hostility is Lui not only assaulted his partner while she was pregnant, but that he obviously had no concern about harming their unborn baby at the time he hit her in the stomach. Intoxicated or not, its a real dog act.
