For our older fans and a few of our newer ones, I was just going through the guide for Foxsports and in 1/2 an hour at 9.00pm there will be a game from 1991 between the Mighty Magpies and the North Sydney Bears, can't wait, enjoy!.

The magpies game missed out last week but how good is it to see the black n whites on the box tonight - go you good things!!!!

It was an alright game, I'm not gonna spoil it for people who have recorded it or plan to watch the replay.
But I miss those ch 10 commentators, I thought they were pretty good back in the day.

that was a great team. had the team to win the comp but warren ryan died in the **** i think it was something like this.

1\. Shaun Devine, Russell Wyer
2\. Wayne Simonds
3\. Russell Wyer, Tony Cossatto,
4\. Andrew Farrar
5\. Jamie Ainscough
6\. Ivan Henjak
7\. Jason Taylor
8\. Darren Britt
9\. Joe Thomas, Shane Flanagan (cronulla coach)
10\. David Gillespie, Steve Jackson, Tony Rampling
11\. Bob Lindner, Graham Wynn
12\. Paul Langmack, Cameron Blair, Ron Gibbs
13\. Jason Lidden

Maybe the backline was too skinny. i dont know. great game. magpie banners looked great.

Unfortunately for Wests they lost Paul Langmack for the season very early on and for the game against the Bears were without Gillespie & Lindner but after watching it again today they still should have won.
Even a draw for the Magpies would have been a great result as they ended up finishing on equal points with the Bulldogs and had to endure a midweek playoff which they duly won but had to back up on the Saturday.

Great memories of that game.I actually got my head on TV waving my huge Wests flag. Great stuff Angelo Alavanja!!!!!
Wooooo!!!

Watching this reminded me of that day.

Two great clubs in front of a full house & great ratings.Back then they didn"t push games like now so it was the real deal.I"m happy with the Wests Tigers arrangement but it was a reminder, that on a seperate level both clubs were successfull, popular & could and should have survived.

I thought the standard great, very quick & skillfull.

In the end the match decided the top 3.If we made the top 3 that year I feel we would have gone all the way because second week of the finals we would have got Lidner & Rampling back & beat Penrith well at our only meeting that year at Penrith.A lot of injuries that year, bit of a shame really.Still we had all 3 grades in the finals and won the club Championship,a big achievement.

Still remember that match. Great game, but the loss cost wests the 1991 premiership.

I blame Stephen Humphreys… Only kidding - it was a good game to watch and it is fascinating to see how much the game has changed since those days. Love seeing guys come on wearing number 40!

Norths had a great team back then especially the forwards... They were unfortunate that Brisbane and St George were just a little better at the time.

They were probably even a better side then the Dragons in the 90s, just the Dragons seemed to be able to come out with these bursts and overachieve come finals time.

I think the Bears letdown back then was the fact that they didnt have an out and out superstar that the likes of Brisbane and Canberra had.

4 prelim finals without a grand final appearance tells a story.

They certainly could of given it a shake, if they won that match, it would of been the Pies finishing 3rd with a finals 2nd chance and the Bears in a playoff for 5th. Who knows how things would of turned out for the Pies if they won the comp that year.

So it was Angelo Alavaja in the No. 42 jumper?, I noticed this big unit a few times and was expecting to hear a players name mentioned but Graeme Hughes never said his name, why didn't his career kick along?, I think he ended up at Souths?.
