OFFICIAL Club discussion with Shaun Mielekamp

Shaun (welcome to the forum) I am interested to know if we employ sports psychologists?

In recent years I am wondering why we start the season well but then pile on consecutive losses after losing our mojo, is this a mindset issue we need to address?
Yes we do have a sports psychologist. We did a heap of work in the pre-season and will be something that continues to be refined.

At our home games, we play Never Tear Us Apart, but our pathways still operate under several different identities

Balmain Tigers and Western Suburbs Magpies each field Harold Matthews and SG Ball teams. Those players then combine as Wests Tigers in Jersey Flegg, before the reserve grade side competes as the Western Suburbs Magpies in the NSW Cup.

Does the club have a long term vision to become more unified across all levels, while still recognising the history of Balmain and Western Suburbs?

Hey Shaun welcome to the Forum !!! must say i've never seen a CEO come onto a fan forum and answer questions before so that's pretty cool. Just wanted to ask I know the club has been pretty set on trying to maximise the most out of our catchment areas in terms of pathways but is there potential to set up strongholds in other areas around NSW/Other states? I know Penrith have a strong foothold in the country towns, Roosters are pretty good at scouting players from NZ. Does the club have an apetite for something like this?

There is a heap of work going into this area - it is a unique puzzle that covers a huge area. We are forming our long term plan and vision on this. I'll keep you posted on the progress as it happens, I anticipate this will take a few months at the very least. To start the focus will be on the coaching resources and structures.

@ShaunMielekamp

Are we looking to make changes with the assistant coaches to ensure Benji has the best possible personnel around him to ensure success or are we happy with the current staffing?
Every year there is an off-season review to see what needs to be kept and also improved. Sorry to be a little bit cryptic but as this is a topic that does involve staff I do have to keep professional and not make public comment here.

Good question and yes we do have an appetite and the other clubs do this really well. In saying that though I do feel we need to get our own backyard right as a priority. We will get there and it will take time - but if we see a market we can get good results from quickly we will jump at it, nothing specific here yet

Yep we will forever struggle to make the 8 if we are playing that many at ctown since we will have to rely on away win, on record we can only bank about 2 or 3 out of 8 there
I love the explanations
Too cold
Too many away teams
We win too much at Leichhardt so that detracts from wins at Campbelltown.

Honestly, what a joke. This is simply a Magpies takeover. Call it for what it is.

I agree with you more money is needed- I'm passionate about this needs to be improved. I can't answer why it hasn't happened in the past but I can answer why it should happen and confirm this is a conversation i am having with all four boards, I need to present a clear and concise plan for investment - there is a lot to be done here and this is the real key to our long term future success.
Do you have to justify this financially ? Ie. submit some kind of thesis or business plan to the board to increase the funds . Or is it more AD HOC . Eg. we need an extra scout in a certain area but the current budget doesn’t allow for the 80-100k for that guy/ girl . As opposed the pathways need an extra 1 mil for example and queue power point presentation outlining exactly where that money is spent .
I’m just curious in the process .

Hey @ShaunMielekamp,
Thanks for taking some time out here to talk on the forum. I enjoyed your chat with Matty G and agree with the idea of fans, club, members and everyone trying to find ways to get the crowd into it at Campbelltown. Need to make it an extra man for the Tigers like we get at Leichardt (but in its own way).

Hopefully we can look to build up that atmosphere and make it a great place to attend games in the future and change results to make it a graveyard for opposing teams to visit! I have been to nearly every home game at Campbelltown for the past 10 or so years and the results haven't been pretty. Walking out of there with a win, always feel like a buzz!

Secondly, I am a sucker for watching lower grades before the NRL fixture. Is there a way this can be factored into more matches from 2027 and beyond? Watching Latu, Javon and Jared combine well to put Manly away before the game against Dolphins was great to see before the main game.

I have a simple question Shaun.

If you could please explain the publicly available HBG financial reports - there's no absolute clarity about how much funding goes where in relation to the football club and juniors. We are left to piece information together, but frankly it doesn't look very good when compared with the investment of other clubs.
I'm sorry but I haven't looked into the financial reports of HBG to explain in detail. I'll take the question on notice and see what I can tell everyone. (give me some time in this though).

Apologies everyone I have to jump offline now. I simply won't get to everyone's questions, but I look forward to catching up on the discussion when I next get time to jump on.

Welcome Shaun,
When can we expect to see some definitive plans and images for the upgrades at both CSS.and LO?
Theres been varying images.and ideas put forth but they seem to be 'artists impressions'
And will the new seating/stand at the Iron Cove end of LO be undercover, have a roof?

Alao can you confirm our reserve grade coach is operating in a part time capacity

Thanks
I'll try again

Yes is there a way for bar tv to be included in a digital membership. Also how come the digital memberships aren’t released at the same time as other memberships?

That's essentially what we are building towards. in 2029 when the grounds are both completed their renovations the plan is for 7-8 games Campbelltown, 3-4 games Leichhardt and 1 major events match ie: Easter Monday.

Could you please shed some more light on the Campbelltown redevelopment? There have been mock ups circulating, but nothing appears to have been formally confirmed.

From my understanding, the redevelopment may only involve a new grandstand (similar to Leichhardt). So its difficult to determine whether Cambo will offer a clear commercial advantage over Leichhardt once the works are completed.I assume there would be more corporate faciltities or something.

Good on you Shaun, welcome to the forum.

You obviously realise that some on here are just angry at the world, please try to laugh some feedback off.

As a 16 consecutive year member I remain committed to supporting the club financially. In this context HBG funding is my largest frustration. They want to own Wests Tigers, but then aren’t prepared to pay the upkeep required…

Kinda feels like you get the funding appropriate to come 17th and then we all hope for results that are top 8.
Have the HBG clearly outlined what they would need from you to agree to increase funding to something like the 50th percentile of clubs?
