Clubs chase Laurie as Tigers stand him down from firsts

sounds like a kid having a dummy spit…

they wont put me in 1st's, so ill have a cry...

man up u big sook...

Sounds like his attitude stinks and is not willing to fight his way back into First Grade working on his obvious weaknesses, mainly in his defensive lapses and reads around the ruck. If this is the case, Daine needs a good dose of 'man in the mirror' medicine. The buck starts and stops with the individual. The talent is there. The ability is there. The potential is there. The hunger, desire and ticker is not. Pull your head in Daine and knuckle down. I'm sure Wests Tigers will not be granting him a release anytime soon. It's about become resilient and stronger for the long term.

Laurie's only decent game is probably the last one he played. He tackled, and defended reasonably well. He even caught the ball.

If it is true that he is hanging around with Mundine, it is all downhill from here and probably another Andrew Walker story.

That said I hope it is not true.

Daine’s happy at the club but he wants to be playing first grade on a regular basis. He considers himself NRL standard

I disagree. Application and defensive nouse are required to be listed as NRL Standard for a forward.

Agree with others. If he wants to carry on like this than is he really that important to us? Would we rather develop a Beetham or Fifita to fill a slot in the front row? Would we rather develop an Akeripa or a Gower for the back row in his stead?

Finally is it any suprise ever since Laurie became a Mundine cronie that he rates himself higher than any good judge of the game and that his attitude is utter rubbish?

This club pulled a guy with potential from a future than almost certainly was to feature a stint in gaol and gave him a shot to make something of himself.

Dain if you are having a dummy spit wake up if anyone should have the right to have one was Shannon Gallant but no he fought his way back to the nrl. If you dont want to do that then good by

I would hate to see the club loose Laurie… I think this whole article is a beat up though

Not if you'd have seen him play….Rugby League wasn't high on his priority list......He could be an awesome...but something needs to change bigtime fast....

Everyone getting geed up over this article… the only quote in the entire article says he's happy at the tigers...

The Herald said he decline to comment when they tried to contact him but said he admitted to being frustrated....

What's wrong with being frustrated and wanting to play 1st grade?... The club will use this and tell him to push himself and prove why he should be in firsts.. personally i think we'll see him playing 1st grade before the season ends..

Clubs are always going to be interested in the bloke like Daine... but none will guarantee him a spot in their 1st grade side.

He want's an upgrade to his 45k contract... tbh I'm surprised he is only on 45k!!

I follow the Balmain side of the merger and don't often get out to watch the Magpies games… so i can only go off reports and by all reports he was woeful yesterday which is a real shame!

All in all... Article is a beat up... he'll get his contract upgraded and kill it next season haha

GEEZ i dont see eye to eye with my boss but i turn up and do my job how come in Sport its always the coachs fault . In top level sport attitude is everything even before talent im over him gee WHO does he remind me of ???? that boxer ??? He will probably go on to another club and do well but that will be after the next club have the heart to heart meeting and he realises he cant call the shots . If i was in danes shoes and i got the nrl lifeline i would listen to any advise and work my backside off and shutup , At the moment he can do the spectacular things but thats only 20% of his game the other 80% is not to nrl standard . So enjoy another club dane good luck give another GARETH ELLIS any day .

Can't argue with that Smeg. It's a two-way street and Daine is only getting back what he puts in, and at the moment he is not putting in much. Meanwhile we have other players who have been consistently good for BRET and Wests this year who are not getting a shot in FG, namely Gower and Akeripa as two examples, and we're not hearing any un-rest coming from them. They just continue to play to the best of their ability each week and hopefully their form will warrant a call-up one day, and most here would argue that they wouldn't be out of place in FG either for that matter.

I guess the main question is, how long will the Tigers persist with Laurie? Sheens has already been quoted as saying Laurie will be the next Willie Mason and he will be a superstar next season etc. At this stage Daine has a lot of hard work in front of him if he wants to live up the superstar tag for next season. And if he's going to change his attitude, he might like to have a think about where he has come from to get to where he is now.

People think that Laurie is a destructive runner of the ball - I will go even further and say that Akeripa is even more destructive at the moment. Runs harder and has more speed. Akeripa isn't known as The Beast for nothing - he is a faster version of the tank Tuiaki (not as big though - but big enough) waiting to be unleashed on NRL opponents. The only thing I see holding him back (other than Sheens) is that he still has a few errors in him.

And Ellis,Galea, Payne, Payten, Heighington, Dwyer in front of him….

The Beast will get his shot before seasons out......Sheens is using them instead of Nu for now.....Royce should announce a new signing or 2 this week I reckon....

The article doesnt make sense, it says Sheens wants Daine in State Cup to learn how to play 2nd row, but Daine is playing front row in State Cup, so thats just one point of the article thats obviously made up.

this whole season it appear that laurie has had a few attitude problems.
earlier on in the season when he got dropped or not selected and went walk about and there were rumblings then that he wanted out.
again if the article is correct, he missed a training session and wants automatic selection.

that's not the mental attitude that will win you friends or a first grade spot.
he's got the raw talent, but he needs to take a long hard look at himself if he wants to be a regular first grader. Part of being a champion player is consistancy and the ability to recognise your weaknesses and work hard on them until they become your strengths.

Sheens wants Laurie to listen…..It's simple he wont or is not willing to at the moment....The article doesn't have to be accurate to see what's going on......It has nothing to do with the position he plays on the field in State Cup or First Grade....

Laurie's at a crossroads that's for sure....
