Coach Benji 👑

If Fatty O'Barrell honestly believes it is puzzling why we have dropped down the ladder he is either not watching the games or drinking too much Grange or quite possibly both.
You’d think a Chairperson of an NRL team would have some understanding of why the results have been disastrous. No….we just get more confusion. Well maybe if they don’t have the answers, they shouldn’t be in the top job.

He needs to be sacked but we can’t because the owners re-signed him after player pressure 🤣. Honestly all you can do is laugh at the incompetence. What else is there to do?

We don’t deserve to be in the comp.

HBG have completely screwed us. Richo was setting it up for an easy termination of Benji allowing a smooth ride for an competent incoming coach. HBG decided to derail the program and put us in the worst position we have ever been with no light at the end of the tunnel.

If Benji continues, he is going to gi from one if the most loved figures ti the most hated. He could very well be the one that runs this clubs into the grave.
It’s a myth that he has always been loved. Both times he left previously, the fan base had already turned on him. The first time after he spat the dummy when Potter benched him (Note the irony) and he went to the Auckland Blues and made that video wearing their jersey while still playing for us. Then the second stint, he spat the dummy when Madge didn’t want to re-sign him which didn’t endear him to many. Being hated is not now new to Benji.

this is absolutely correct. Richo was giving him everything he wanted so there was no excuse when he couldn’t get the results. It was a win win situation- either Marshall was successful or he wasn’t and there were no excuses for it.

Shows you how devoid of reason and nuance HBG is. Leak a story about Marshall being sacked, players front HBG, HBG cave and give Benji an extension he didn’t even think he deserved and now we’re yet again in the shit 🤣. I mean how embarrassing are we

Yeah, richo played his hand well... no way he gets a 5 year extension under him...

Benji also played it well, he will be paid out in full.

Theres only one group who didnt play it well... the common denominator year in year out...

Absolutely! You summed it up perfectly.

I’d also say Benji had years of injury and shit performances and results as a player. 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012, 2013….just in his first stint. Plus when Gibbs and Fifita left there were criticism Benji wanted star treatment and got treated differently to the rest. Makes you wonder why our culture is so rancid.

You can blame Sheens for a lot of it. And not just his second stint. He fostered a boys club mentality for years. Let the inmates run the asylum. That’s what Benii learned was the norm as that’s how he runs things himself now. You always wonder where we could have been if Bellamy took the job instead. You can’t say he wouldn’t have had success, because Sheens did. However, Bellamy no doubt would have made us much more consistent. To the point we wouldn’t be the laughing stock we are. A real sliding doors moment.

I don't know if: HBG; the boy's club of coaches; or the entitled players are the major problem, but that presser from Benji is unforgivable. The words "proud" and "character" do not belong anywhere near this team. Either grow a set Benji or show yourself out. The word that best defines today and this season is "apathetic".

I think hate is a strong word. It is completely normal to feel deep frustration when your team is struggling, but directed hatred toward a coach is exhausting and rarely helps.
I prefer to say in a state of sports-induced existential dread...;-)
Keep a healthy distance: At the end of the day, it is a game played by strangers, and letting a loss ruin your actual week gives the scoreboard way too much power over your life. IMHO, of course.

I've said this so many times it's getting tiring. The bloke threw one famous pass in 2005 and somehow that became his entire legacy.

I'll give him credit for the Golden Boot years in 2010 or 2011, but outside of 2005, 2010 and 2011, his career was pretty average once he no longer had a quality half beside him. Scott Prince and Robert Lui gave him structure. Without that, he was rocks and diamonds every damn week.

One minute he'd kick it out on the full, the next he'd accidentally side foot a kick that landed perfectly for a try. There was no consistency. He had unbelievable natural talent, but he also had an enormous amount of luck, and I think people remember the highlights while forgetting just how ordinary many of his performances actually were. At no point were you ever confident Benji would take control of the game and win it like a Cam Smith or a JT or a Freddy or a Joey and on and on with all the great winners and game managers.

As a coach he's been living off his playing reputation. Strip away the nostalgia and judge him on results. The Tigers have been undisciplined, mentally fragile and tactically clueless for long stretches under his watch. At some point, excuses run out. Good blokes don't automatically make good coaches, and right now he's coaching on reputation, not performance.

His coaching has been all hype and very little substance. Week after week the Tigers look underprepared, make the same mistakes, fall apart under pressure and show little sign of learning. If any other coach delivered these performances, they'd be under enormous pressure. Benji seems to get a pass because he's Benji.

The best thing Benji has coached is his own reputation.

4 runs one out, bomb that no one chases.
No shape in attack, no players in motion.
Wingers that repeatedly rush in and lunge for butterflies.
No support players on the rare occasion we make a break.
Used 2 bench players for the majority of the game today.

The outlier was the first 9 rounds, what's happening now is normal output.

Benji can't do this job.

HBG are hammering the final nails into the coffin with smiles on their faces.

I was sorta thinking the same thing…
I have a gut feeling HBG may not have been the only ones out for Richo.

Some guys always end up on top…

Benji should’ve been apologising to fans for that disgrace. We deserve better.

And he suggests it was an improvement?
That AD played outstanding?

I’m very pro Benji and even I’ll admit that’s intolerable.

This is an unacceptable standard.
I loved Benji. I'll always respect what he gave us in 2005.

But after those comments tonight, I'm done.

Enough with the excuses. Enough with the spin. Enough with the delusions. Enough treating Tigers fans like we're too stupid to see what's happening every single week.

Where was the apology? Where was the accountability? Instead, we got another press conference full of deflection while the club continues to sink.

Being a club legend doesn't give you a free pass forever. Right now you're not coaching on results, you're surviving on nostalgia.

Tigers fans have invested their time, money and loyalty for years, and this is what we get? It's embarrassing.

I'll be one of the first with the pitchforks. Benji has to go. Not next month. Not at the end of the season. Now.
