Coach Benji

We have seen time and time again coaching contracts mean Jack in modern times it's a pure PR move to try and smooth things over the players and fans if you're naive enough to believe it.

If the team has a shit next season, he will be in the firing line again.
To an extent yes you’re right but given what’s happened the HBG will look like idiots if they were to sack Benji after just giving him an extension. Benji is probably locked in until at least 2028 if they want to avoid mass criticism from the media. The extension was their attempt of damage control after messing everything up in a span of 2 weeks. I reckon 99% of fans won’t be swayed by this, they’ll still be going tomorrow demanding the HBG are removed.

Love Benji but they are treating us like fools again.
There actions have enforced the ,"joke of a club" title and put our ability to attract and retain players at risk - watch the clauses in every contract now.
We are going round in circles with this mob - and nothing will change while they keep focussing on control instead of professionalism

Good call.

If he continues to languish, he'll get correctly dumped with a pay out anyway. That pay out will come out of HBG's coffers, so who cares.

But what it does do, is provide immediate stability in a key area. It'll allow the playing group to feel some sort of security in their coach moving forward, which is probably more important than the machinations of the HBG or WT Board setup to the playing group anyway. Will certainly assist with looming re-signings considering what's gone on.

The question I ask for the critics of this decision (and I know there are big, legitimate concerns as well), is how would the key members of the playing group respond to a Benji extension?

From a squad stability perspective, given what's transpired in the past couple of weeks, it will stabilise exit talk from key members of the squad.

I, personally, can't stomach another ground-up rebuild.
Are you sure about that? Is it included in the off field cap we have on support staff?

I'd assume coach pay outs wouldn't.

The football department cap is relatively low, so if paying out a coach was stuck to that, teams would struggle to replace any coach they rissole.

It's a different process to playing contracts in that regards as far as I'm aware.

Wonder what they are keep them off the bottom of the table, that's all you would expect with all the constant interference, doubt we will sign any players of calibre with this mob in charge.

They stink to anyone looking in.
I feel like this Bula deal becomes one of the most important in the history of the club.

Will tell us if our name is completely mud.

A week ago I'd have said no chance but now with the Benji news I'd say better than average.

Hmm never thought I'd use a Crocodile Dundee quote.

The Bula deal will get done but Moses will milk it for all its worth now.

It'll be something like $850k for 4 years with a mutual option for the last year & a Benji clause thrown in

HBG will bend over backwards to get bula signed and im sure they will kick in more for Luai to remove the clauses...could screw our salary cap if these are knee jerk reactions just to quiet the noise.

No doubt a difficult interview for him. Marshall was honest in answering questions and especially his answer about his extension. He has a good way with the media and is a huge asset to the club and our prospect of recruiting and retaining players. Well done.
