Wests Tigers Coach Michael Maguire says his side must back up their effort shown against South Sydney last week as they look to end a tough run of results in their ANZAC Day clash tomorrow.

Maguire's side were bitterly unlucky not to walk away with the two competition points last week after they were run down by the Rabbitohs in Golden Point, but said his side must find a similar effort this week as they take on the Sea Eagles.

Fuelled by return of Tom Trbojevic, Manly produced an inspired performance to down the Titans in Mudgee last week and will certainly prove a tough test.

"We've got to back up the effort and the energy we put out on the field," Maguire enthused ahead of the side's final training run on Saturday.

"We're working hard for each other but we've got to back it up.

"We've been really diligent in the preparation this week but we've got to be about that repeat performance and that's between the ears. It comes back with our attitude to how we go about things and the expectations we have of each other.

"We've really looked hard internally this week so I'm looking forward to seeing a strong performance. We've ebbed and flowed a little bit so we need to back it up — the training has been strong and we've got to make sure we utilise that."

With AJ Kepaoa ruled out for the remainder of the season, utility Michael Chee Kam returns to the side at centre while local junior Alex Seyfarth earns his first appearance of the year after being called into the side on the bench.

Maguire said their selection was reward for their efforts in the Knock-On Effect NSW Cup competition, where the Magpies have won their past four games.

"There's been some really strong performances down in reserve-grade," he said, "so it's a bit of reward for those guys off what they've been doing.

"We've got to make sure we're building in both grades and across the club, and those boys have definitely shown that they're ready to be back in first-grade.

"As much as we did some great things last week, we've got to make sure we control those games and close them out in the moments. They're the little things we're looking for now to be a stronger team than where we have been.

"We've got to work hard in that area."

Rewarding Reggies players with strong performances...I guess that works Madge unless their name is Chee-Kam..

I thought the inclusion of MCK was just a smokescreen but it looks like I was wrong.

Since when has a player that’s been named at centre ever been a smoke screen ..?

Problem is Chee Kam isn't a centre and hasn't been playing there in reserves much... on paper looks strange but we will wait and see how he goes.

Leilua was named an hour before kickoff last time he played

Well if Chee-kam plays then the surf club can expect a visit from me
They have nice cold beers down there and it helps hide the pain

Chee Kam has probably been our best player in reggies tbh. It's just that everyone who watches those games also knows what he offers in first grade and want to see some of the other lads given a go.

It is poor planning again and something I have not been able to work out for a while...Chee Kam has played back row only in reserves. If you intend to play him at center in firsts, **at the very least play him at center in state cup and let him get more familiar with the position** He is very flat footed on D and arm grabs. In no world is he a center or a starter. At the very most he is a 17, and a last ditch option at that.

The only positive is Manly's centers are also terrible.

Tommy Turbo will target Chee Kam's edge all day though.

Morgan Harper, who will be marking up against MCK, played extremely well last week. Let's hope MCK has improved his centre play. I'm hopeful, but it's another one where we've been burned by this situation in the past.

We really have no better options. It's unfortunate but hopefully Chee-Kam has a blinder.

Morgan Harper is, by far, the worst center in the NRL.

I was hoping Madge would play BJ as there is no way Harper would be able to handle him / Harper is skinny and a poor defender.

Playing MCK seems illogical as it basically says "we will match your poor center with our own" rather than take advantage of it.

Didn’t Morgan Harper scores a couple against us last year?

All for rewarding players but Chee Kam isn’t a centre.

I can't remember, but probably. It is kind of a surreal tradition that every terrible center has his 'career game' v us 🙂

Yeah Harper got 2 or 3 against us last year - he's a pretty decent runner of the footy.

If Wests Tigers are so short of "quality" centres why hasn't the club put their hand in their pocket and sign a quality centre? The club a good winger in Corey go to Titans and couldn't we do with him now. It's the continuing story of Wests tigers.

Oh, I forgot. Wests Tigers are building a centre of excellence.
