800 dead in Italy over night. Anyone suggesting this is just a cold should have a good hard think about things.

The mortality rate is all over the place. Germany has a mortality rate of 0.37% of total infected cases. Italy has a mortality rate of 9%. We just have to wait and see how we handle it. It's not going to be a cold though. A lot of people get sick.

I think that is reflective of population demographics and the amount of testing done. Countries with higher mortality rates could possibly be only testing symptomatic cases with others who are more asymptomatic not tested. This does suggest that the 41k recorded cases is massively underreported.

Australia has done a fairly high rate of testing per capita. While there is evidence of community transmission, the majority can be traced from overseas.

Not necessarily just asymptomatic. It could just mean milder cases aren't being tested. So everyone getting testing are basically in emergency departments.

I think we've done okay with testing so far but I think we need to be tough now to try and get this virus under control.

These charts are interesting especially if you look at them on a linear scale. Italy just had exponential growth in infections and deaths. Germany had a significant rise in infections with a significant rise in the no of deaths.

It's almost like it's different viruses.
