The mortality rate is all over the place. Germany has a mortality rate of 0.37% of total infected cases. Italy has a mortality rate of 9%. We just have to wait and see how we handle it. It's not going to be a cold though. A lot of people get sick.
I think that is reflective of population demographics and the amount of testing done. Countries with higher mortality rates could possibly be only testing symptomatic cases with others who are more asymptomatic not tested. This does suggest that the 41k recorded cases is massively underreported.
Australia has done a fairly high rate of testing per capita. While there is evidence of community transmission, the majority can be traced from overseas.
