Council to request upgrade to Campbelltown Stadium By Scott Dougherty April 30, 2013, 3:08 p.m. A PROPOSAL to upgrade Campbelltown Sports Stadium into a venue with a larger capacity and even better facilities will be sent to the state government. See your ad here The 2012 NSW Government's Stadia Strategy proposes "further consideration of options to increase capacity in western Sydney to meet future demand".

General manager of Campbelltown Council, Paul Tosi, said the proposal would be ready in the next few weeks and would look at increased seating and upgrades. "Our stadium is outstanding as far as location with the train line and it has the parking," he said. "Hopefully when we submit this, the government will consider it. "Penrith and Parramatta have put in submissions and we are too."

Councillor Paul Lake said anything less than a proposed 30,000 capacity would be "whistling in the wind". "I spoke to Barry O'Farrell when he was in Campbelltown and asked him 'when are you requesting proposals for stadium upgrades?'," Cr Lake asked. See your ad here "He said 'we're not, people are just sending them in' and said to talk to my general manager to send one in. "The whole idea is to make it bigger to attract bigger events and more people to Campbelltown."

Cr Lake wanted to reiterate it wouldn't be "council money" going to an upgrade, it would be money the state government puts aside for a sporting facility. "If they are going to do it, we want Campbelltown to be in with a shot," Cr Lake said. "Campbelltown and Camden will have 500,000 more people here in the next 10 years or so — we need a stadium big enough for the growth."

Would also be a second home for the Wanderers

The Wanderers are certainly looking for a bigger stadium to play out of. If a stadium were to get an upgrade, using the Wanderers as a co-tenant will certainly help its chances.

Why only 30K? I would be championing for a 40K stadium. Football crowds are only going to get bigger and Rugby League crowds are increasing.

As I have stated on previous similar threads population growth and infrastructure are just 2 of the key elements that will be seeing our club market and promote the game in the Macathur region. Without doubt it is in heartland rugby league territoryIt wont happen overnight but it will happen.

Campbelltown may actually be pretty smart choosing an upgrade that is smaller. Doing that lowers the overall cost and as such may be something the state government prefers as then they don't have to fork out as much.

What is the point. We currently have an 18,000 capacity stadium we can't fill.

The only good thing is that while its being upgraded we won't have to play there

I think what needs to be realised is that the NRL is drifting to a stadium policy similar to that of the AFL. Legislation and business pressures will see the end of grounds without sufficient seating.

Can see the following grounds being used:

Homebush
SFS
SCG
4th Stadium (Parramatta, Campbelltown or Penrith)

Should Campbelltown get the upgrade, it won't just be Wests and the Wanderers playing at the venue - Canterbury, Souths, Parramatta etc will play matches at Campbelltown. For example, Canterbury may play 4 games at Campbelltown and 8 games at Homebush.

The demographics of Sydney have changed and continue to change. Where you live does not completely determine the team you support.

Never going to happen. Waste of anyone's time even asking for this.

Haven't sold out the stadium since the first Wests Tigers game there, barely get 12k to any game and yet they want to increase to 30k? No other clubs would want to play there. Wanderers won't play there (except maybe once as a regional game). Too isolated.

Only one stadium will be upgraded and that will most likely be Parra. Maybe Penrith at a stretch. 18k for Campbo is about right.

Cambo has a Average attendance of 14,238 with the larges crowd being 20,527 in 2005 so it has been sold out or close to sold out on a number of occasions.

Though I do agree that Parra will get the nod, the only downside to Parra is tha it has bugger all parking for cars so a large multi leevl carpark should be part of the parra upgrade.

If Cambo got the upgrade I would like for the Station Walkway to be upgraded so it is easier for more people to get back to the car park without swamping the train station.

In the future I honestly see the Wests Tigers following the lead ouf Souths and the Bulldogs to ANZ. This would give the tigers better facilities, guaranteed gate takings no matter the crowd and the ability to offer cheaper and better value membership packages.

To me, Parra isn't an option because the surrounding streets are not capable of dealing with such big crowds. Either build it at Liverpool or Blacktown.

If the facilities are also upgraded it will actually encourage larger crowds.

Like Ink said if you don't ask you don't get, and as per the OP, anticipated population growth would make it a good idea. You never know…

I wonder if we did get it would they play semis there???

You would have to think that would be a nice advantage.

Under the current rules I reckon not. We would have to declare ourselves and the area to be regional. This would be unlikely as we are not a regional team and Campbelltown is considered part of Sydney.
