Cricket Season Thread

What a day for Aus indeed.

Wohoo

Mrs is out and the Kids are sleeping

Cricket team is dominating as they Should be.

what an enthralling day of cricket. With bell in he can cause a little bit of stubborness which could make for an interesting 4th day. if we loose this heads must roll.

Based on recent matches I'm not going to be relieved until we get that final wicket!
We're gonna be faced with a pretty dead pitch in Melbourne courtesy of the AFL forcing the curator to use drop in wickets so it might be hard getting 20 wickets there which means… We could be facing a decider in the final Test!
I might be getting to far ahead of myself.

Imagine if we hung on for another hour in Adelaide, we would be looking at 1-0 up with 2 to play at the moment.

ustralia's charge towards a series-levelling victory has been upset by Ricky Ponting suffering a broken finger that will leave him fighting for fitness for the remainder of the campaign. The team physio, Alex Kountouris, said that X-rays had "confirmed a small fracture of his left little finger. A decision on whether he will field today will be made during the team warm up this morning at the WACA."

Ponting was sent to hospital for a scan after rebounding the edge of Jonathan Trott from first slip to the wicketkeeper Brad Haddin late on the third day. After joining his team-mates in the huddle, he left the field for treatment. Peter Siddle said Ponting "seemed alright", but the extent of the injury was not revealed until a Cricket Australia statement before play on the fourth day.

The WACA has become a horrible ground for Ponting, who was forced to retire hurt last year after being struck on the elbow by West Indies' Kemar Roach. His poor run in this series continued here with scores of 12 and 1, taking his total to 83 in six innings.

Despite the pain in his hand, Ponting will be buoyed by the amazing response of his team in Perth after being out-played in the opening two Ashes fixtures. Australia need only five wickets over the next two days to level the series at 1-1 with two Tests remaining.

Ponting last missed a Test in 2004-05 when a broken finger kept him out of the first three games of the final-frontier victory in India. Adam Gilchrist was in charge of that campaign, handing over to Ponting for the final match, which Australia lost in Mumbai. Michael Clarke, the vice-captain, will step in if Ponting can't recover for the Boxing Day Test, although Ponting is understood to be determined to play through the pain.

Yeah, unfortunately it didn't pan out that way.

Melbourne test will probably end up a draw. The ball will do nothing. Hoping the top order get their act together.

Harris!! Fantastic performance by the Aussies. Now, for the next test. which spinner will be picked is the main stuff and if Ponting can play or else Khawaja comes in.

Its ended fast here in Perth. England have been poor. Strauss is all or nothing like North. Collingwood can catch but can't bat at the moment. Bell is too good to be at 6\. Their quicks are over-worked without the 4th help in the seam department that Flintoff gave. Collingwood can do a little of that which will probably keep him in the team. Little problems.

The Aussies have been great. Steve Smith added something and Hughes will be more confident for the run. 4 quicks were the right call for Perth but I don't think will be in Melbourne. We played 4 quicks and went without a spinner in England last time and it was the wrong decision. Beer was chosen because the WACA was apparently his home-ground. Do they now choose Holland from Victoria? Hauritz has to be the slow-bowler doesn't he? His on 90 now after a century last week for NSW and if he gets wickets surely he comes in for a seamer (Hilfenhaus or Siddle) on the docile drop-in pitches used in Melbourne. Punter will play with the injury. You don't miss games like these.

Psychological edge to the Aussies.

Well i dont think they can pick doherty or beer who picked up only wicket between them in their completed sheild match. Hauritz has one scalp to go along with his 110 not out so his done alright. Jon Holland picked up four at the adelaide oval in his match so he may get a shot. He was picked to tour india in ODIs but never got a game so obviously someone likes him. Steve O'Keefe could also come into some calculations i guess we'll have to wait and see.

gonna throw a big couple of roughies into replace ponting if injured, Nic Maddinson from NSW, Rob Quiney from Victoria, Mark Cosgrove from Tassie nowadays as well as Chris Lynn from QLD but Khawaja and Ferguson would have to be leading the pack

My team for Boxing day would be the same as the one that ran out at the WACA, with Hauritz in for Siddle, and Usman Khawaja on standby for Punter. I would also switch Huss and Clarke around (they shouldn't have ever been swapped to begin with).

We are struggling with the bat so Hauritz has to be the pick if they are to pick a spinner.

Agree with Uzi in for Punter. Hughes needs to fire in both innings if he doesn't want to be left in selection wilderness again.

I would put in Ferguson for Smith. I know Smith was good in the second innings but he is a genuine one day player with his leggies and brilliant fielding. I consider Ferguson a specialist and Smith for me isn't the right choice for the No.6 spot.
t
As for a spinner, Holland took 4 wickets in a cup game coupla days ago. It's either him or Hauritz but if they want to stick with Smith, then I say pick Hauritz.

To me it seemed like the Aussies could do nothing right in Adelaide while England played their perfect game. The roles were then swapped in Perth. What is the chance of a gripping draw in Melbourne meaning we need to win in Sydney?…
