While im at it, the Australia A team is a joke, if there not going to pick the best state players available (Bird, Cutting and Hazelwood) whats the bloody point of the side? Coulter-Nile and Hastings are good state players at best and Mcdonald and Henriques bowling first change against Amla, Kallis and Smith? It'll be murder. And whats this obsession with Glen Maxwell? If they think hes test quality then they may aswell put me in. I accept i've got a bit of NSW bias but why doesn't Steve O'Keefe ever get a mention? Hes got a first class bowling average of 27 and a batting average of 36

Having a batting average 5-10 years ago of 36 and a bowling average of 27 meant something then

It means little now ,Shield cricket is in rapid decline from what I have seen

When I saw the 'A' team immediately thought 'Is that the next best we have got?' I agree with you guys, where's Bird, Cutting, McDermott, Faulkner, Putland, Cosgrove, etc.

The next 16 months of cricket are going to really show us where we are at in terms of international cricket

I am not overly confident in our batting stocks to put it mildly

Unless we can roll sides for under 350 in their first innings we will struggle to win Test matches

It pretty much all depends on how long Ponting and Hussey can keep going, and then we have to hope in the meantime a few guys in shield cricket put their hands up.

If The Proteas work over Ponting and Watson over we will struggle big time

I can't see us containing Amla ,Kallis ,Smith ,De Villiers and the young fella (having a mental blank 'he tore us apart last time here ) and then scoring enough runs against there attack

Thats the one Yoss Cheers

Thankfully for us , Ponting is looking in pretty good shape 164 no 1st innings and 60no second innings v Vics

The way he is batting he could beat Qld himself 😢

Not having Johnson in our attack this time will go a long way. Our bowling stocks may be inexperienced, but there is some real talent there. Who took over the bowling coach role from McDermott?

With the tv rights running out early next year (March rings a bell but I'm not 100%) & the team on the wane compared to our golden years, I wouldn't think 9 will be wanting to pay much more than they paid last time especially with the financial position that they find themselves in at the moment. I know SBS showed the ashes one year but it's hard to imagine what the cricket coverage would be like on another network.

Duminy is average, he had a great tour last time he came out here but he hasn't kicked on since, infact im not 100% sure if hes even in their side anymore

EDIT: My mistake, de Villiers is the keeper batsman so Duminy is still in the side

Squad for 1st Test v South Africans names

Clarke
Watson
Cowan
Warner
Ponting
M Hussey
Wade
Pattinson
Starc
Siddle
Lyon
Hilfenhaus

Like the bowling attack

Batting line up scares me still

Probably as most expected though

Your thoughts ??

Dunno Happy, it's hard to say. Depends on how the openers go. If Ed "dead bat" Cowan can take the shine of the new ball things might be okay but I worry about Warner's form. If he fails and then Ed gets out after a well compliled 26 over a session, we're looking at 2 for 50 odd around lunch time. Thankfully Watto and Ponting look in reasonable touch and Clarke is going okay. Some defent bats down the order too. The SAFAS have a great blowing attack though.

It's probably the best we can come up with but it is a bit suspect. If we get a decent opening then it could be 5 for 350 at stumps. If not, it could easily be another 9 for 21…

Pretty much what you can expect. No one else was really knocking the door down in domestic cricket, apart from Phil Hughes (who I'd like so see some consistent form from before we recall him). Basically the same team that demolished India (with Watto instead of Marsh), so they can certainly hang with the Saffas.

Turn he volume down and listen the ABC Grandstand GNR

Any of the newer members of missionary team annoy the crap out of me , in particular Taylor and Slater

Over rated cricketers and commentators imo

Bit harsh to say Taylor is an over rated player but agree 100% on the commentating, I can listen to Kerry O'keefe and Damien Fleming all day with ol mate Maxwell piping in aswell

Ali De Winter is the new coach, the former Tassie bowling coach. God knows why they picked him over Waqar Younis when Waqar has a proven record as a player and experience as a national coach.

Not a fan of Fleming. Cant stand his voice, talks out of his nose. Love Kerry, Maxwell is pretty cool too. Roebuck always made the game interesting. Can't stand Glenn Mitchell

Taylor was a great slipper and great captain , but I didn't think he was a opener that I would rate among our greats over the years of Australian cricket

Love hearing the great stories the boys on the ABC tell and Kerry's laugh almost makes me wet myself every time I hear it
