Punter is my childhood hero. I don't think anyone will ever come close to what he achieved in both conventional forms of the game.

**Hope he smashes a triple to**n in Perth and go out like the champion he is.

I wonder if Pup knew something the rest of us didnt the other day when he made his prediction?

Its the right decision, when I say that its right thats its on his terms and I believe him when he says that
Best of luck Punter

Sheens should go for a job with the selectors at the ACB….his insane, mind-boggling decisions would fit in perfectly there

I mentioned to someone in a PM I thought that Punters interview after the last Test made me believe the Perth would be his last Test

Good luck Punter , this is a guy we definitely need to get in a mentoring role for the younger players , you see him onfield giving advice to the younger players and even the older players and calming them down

It will be a sad day when my most favourite sportsmen will no longer take the field. He has been a strong captain, an elite all-round fieldsmen and one of the best batsman ever.

Hopefully the boys can send him off a winner and once again at the top of the test ranking.

Just got home from work and whilst watching the highlights on the cricket show, it was good to see Starc take a couple of early wickets with Watson taking a wicket as well in his first test back from injury. Did SA win the toss and elect to bat? Have we gone in with 4 quicks and Lyon 12th man or 3 quicks and Lyon with one of the two new debutants 12th man?

Did SA win the toss and elect to bat? **Yes**
Have we gone in with 4 quicks? **Only if you count Watson. Pace bowlers are Starc, Johnson, Hastings, Watson**
Lyon with one of the two new debutants 12th man? **Lyon is playing. Hazlewood may be 12th man…**

We dodged a bullet there with Cowan dropping a sitter but Warner running Amla out with a direct hit one over later without him scoring since he was dropped.

As I'm typing Hastings takes his first wicket with the Aussies taking two quick wickets after the lunch break.

And the man with a test avearge approaching 200 comes in at number 7…

Our Bloody nemesis from the second test digs them out of a hole once again, at 6 for 75 we had our foot on their throat but we couldn't finish of our great start. I would imagine the South Africans would be pleased with their final score after having them on the ropes just after lunch. But that's why they are the number 1 ranked side and you can't afford to let them off the hook when you have the opportunity. How fitting would it be to see Punter crack a ton in his last test but you don't often get a fairytale ending to you career.

Siddle should be ashamed to call himself an Aussie. How someone can't back up 4 days after rolling his arm over in mild weather conditions is embarrassing. Himself and the media carried on like he had just stormed a machine-gun nest and won a Victoria Cross after the final day in Adelaide, then all week he was banging on like Meryl Streep to the media that he was fatigued but ready to go in Perth, then he pulls the pin on a series-deciding game like a peaheart.
Bowlers of generations past such as Lillee, Thommo, Merv and McGrath would be laughing into their beers at this bloke.
Shameful

I would have thought if he assured selectors he was good to go and was jumping out of his skin for the opportunity to potentially put in a series-winning performance they would have given him a game. After all, athletes know how they are travelling better than what an outsider would be able to.
I just think there is no way that the four blokes I mentioned in my original post would have been content to just sit back and let someone rule them out of such an important game, unless they were badly injured.

These are different times. Being contracted to CA is the man's livelihood. I'm sure if he went against the direction to stand down he'd be in a fair bit of bother if he subsequently broke down.

I can see your point Yoss but surely if he is considered our best bowler then CA would want him to play to maximise our chances of winning the series and getting the number 1 Test ranking back- it would be a good psychological boost before our double-Ashes year in 2013.
IMO it would be like WT resting Farah from a Grand Final because he has an itchy eye.

Have another beer fade to black. Siddle was ready to go it was the weak chairman and his selectors who made the decision to not play him

I do agree with you FTB. This seems to be something imported from the US where you have set innings numbers. Him and House of Help went over the limit and so John Hastings gets a golden ticket and Mitch Johnson gets another go. Strange days given as you say what is at stake - enough guys seem to breakdown without bowling big numbers of overs.

I will…cheers, is it your shout? As I said, why would you rest your best bowler just because he is supposedly fatigued? If he was injured it is understandable.
If it was CA's decision in the end then they are breeding a team full of sheila's ie: Watson and Pattinson who sit out more matches than what they actually play. Ridiculous IMO

If Pattinson wasn't injured they'd probably have played Siddle. The priority at the moment is the Ashes in a few months, the last thing they want is our fast bowling stocks being depleted. Outside our top 4 quicks I don't think we have anyone who will worry the poms.

By the way 10/10 to Clarke/Ponting/Lyon for that trolling effort tonight.

Everything Ive heard and read points to PS being 'rested' and that he wouldve given everything to play

I think its pretty damned weak saying "Siddle should be ashamed to call himself an Aussie." without knowing the facts 110%
