Cricket Season Thread

George Bailey has surely played himself into the top 6 by now. I'm not usually one for having ODI runs being used as selection criteria for the test side (strongly against Aaron Finch for first XI) but GB has just been prolific! I was a sceptic but now all for it. Warner for opener

serious question here michael clarke is in big doubt for the first test with his back not responding to treatment this leaves 2 big questions for me.

1\. Who takes his spot in the team
2\. Who leads the team with no real VC picked.

For me i think history could be made with George Bailey picked and given the captaincy as well. for me the first test team should be this

1\. Warner
2\. Rogers
3\. Hughes
4\. Watson
5\. Bailey ©
6\. Smith
7\. Haddin
8\. Johnson
9\. Siddle
10\. Harris
11\. Lyon

Without Pattinson, Starc or Bird i think that bowling line up is a lock as long as injury doesnt strike once again obviously Hughes and Warner are the ones that i;m pushing for the top 3 but could see marsh, khawaja, finch and even nick maddinson given a shot if they score well etc

I read that Clarke is actually looking at playing 1 or maybe even 2 shield games before the first test.

What i would like to see is either Bailey or Smith as VC, depending on how long term they are looking, but either way Smith should be in Clarke's ear the whole time in the slips and picking up advice wherever he can, because if he keeps putting in big knocks in pressurised environments (not dead rubber tests) he will be next long term captain. I'm seeing him as a Michael Vaughan sort of player at the moment, a solid, yet unspectacular batsman in charge of rebuilding his side for the future. If he keeps working as hard as he has been, no doubt results will come.

Also starting to wonder whether age is getting the better of Haddin's batting. Tim Paine seems to be hitting a bit of form of late, though this isn't our biggest issue at the moment.

I just don't know why people see Smith as a future captain

He just reminds me of Greg Mo Matthews without all the bling

Bowling or batting isn't even close to Tests standards

I'd like to see Bailey play 15-20 Tests before I even thought about him being capable to cope with Test cricket let alone give him the captaincy

He averages just as much as Phil hughes, dave warner and usman khawaja in first class cricket and is regarded as a great tactician by many in NSW. He's still only 24 and has plenty of time to improve his batting and is only going to get better with more tests under his belt

I don't think Hughes ,Warner or Khawaja are Test quality either Beej

Well if he is regarded as a great tactician by many in NSW he should be captain

Maybe that is the problem with Australian cricket , too many NSW players involved

Talking about NSW players , did Qld beat NSW again in a final ??

This is just getting sooooooo boring

Maybe we should let you win something like the National Synchronizes Swimming Championships or the National Roller Derby titles

South Africa all out for 183
Pakistan all out for 182 in the chase despite being 4/165 at one stage… then losing their last 6 wickets for 17 runs.

With Pakistans history match-fixing comes to mind.

Are we needing to attempt to make grounds bigger with all these massive scores in one day cricket or stop the innovations with cricket bats ??

Is it becoming like golf where at the highest levels they are needing to lengthen courses ?

Just wondering what others believe ??

Here's another question

Why are only one of the current three shield games being played on the true home pitches

How can we expect to get a home ground advantage when playing Test Cricket when these blokes have rarely played on the Gabba ,SCG ,WACA ,Adelaide Oval ,MCG ??

he just scored a 100 in the last test against some of the best bowlers in the world no biggy

He needs to score them when they count , not when the series is dead and buried

At least scrap the powerplays if they are looking into this. Keep in mind the size of these grounds they're playing on such as north sydney oval or the small ones in india

Look like our bowlers may have slumped even lower , just talking to the old man and he said that Harris didn't bowl at all today for Qld

Sharma has just torn us a new one

After being 136 of 137 balls , he then went to 207 from 155 balls

Some serious hitting ,India 6/383 when it looked we might keep them 310-315

If Captain Bailey doesnt run himself out in the most amateurish under 7's no make that under 5's way we probably go on to win that match cause it also led to haddins demise a few balls later.Absolutely disgusting from a captain.

dhawan mocking watson's injury was quite sickening. hope he gets reprimanded from the icc and also a few people from team management to the captain have a word with him about it.

always thought aussies most of the times maintained the aggressiveness without going over the top except a few times.

india is getting worse. i like their aggression but it's just increasing to a little cockiness and arrogance with each win. someone like dhoni should pull his troops together

I suppose when you're on top you can carry on like that.

Henriques drops one spooned to him when Sharma is on 130 odd, and then catches him out 80 runs later taking the ball only a pubic hair off the ground. FMD… Imagine how bad it could have been if Kohli didn't get run out.
