Cricket Season Thread

For the Gabba test I would be bringing in Moses H for Wade and if fit I would be looking at Patterson for Starc to maybe Nesser as he is probably the best swing bowler.
If Warner is unfit I guess it’s back to Marcus Harris as there are no other opening bats in the bubble. Also long shot but maybe Sweepson for Lyons, leggies tend to go okay at the Gabba and Lyons is a great at holding the run flow, but just is not getting the wickets you would expect.

Seriously, if Matt Wade is in one of the 6 best batsmen in the country, then Australian cricket is in a very weak state.

Same goes for Green ...lets see how he responds when we are 4/80 on a green top or a deck that spins like a spinning top ....

People are being too tough on the bowling attack. The pitch gave them nothing and the second half of the day, India stopped scoring runs. Paine's captaincy left a bit to be desired as it wasn't attacking enough. Green and Marnus should've been utilised more.

In the same breath, India has played out of its skin. Ishant Sharma out of the series, Shami only played one game, Yadav gone in the middle of the innings, Kohli played 1 game, Vihari pulled hammie, Ashwin back pain and hit in the ribs, Jadeja broken thumb. Great resilience.

Yes, a lot of credit has to be given to India. Even if Australia win this series, it'll be always under question whether if would have been as achievable with Shami, Yadav, Kohli & now Jadeja and Vihari not seeing out the series.

India hold the Border Gavaskar Trophy and they won it playing against Australia without Smith & Warner. Should they give it back? This is sport, you play the best they can throw in front of you. I'd note that all of those out with the exception of Kohli have been injured during games and all but Jadeja, injured being unable to play our fast bowlers short deliveries and therefore its match related.

He's just another Marsh in my opinion ...in 3 years time people won't even remember this bloke ....he will magnificent when we are 5-500 ...he will go to crap when we are 4-50 needing someone to dig in and build an innings ...he isn't a 6's backside

Its gonna happen Steve ..and you just can't blame the top order and say "well they failed " ...as I keep saying imo 6 is hugely important ....you need to know when to dig in ,bat with the tail , counterattack ...deal with the 2nd new ball .....and you need brains .......

I put that series under question for that reason too. Agree you can only play who is in front of you but you can't tell me Australia or India aren't disadvantaged without their best there.

Bit of a slap in the face to Joe Burns the local boy who scored 57 of 22 balls on his return to the heat..

Yep sorry - I was being flippant.

I don’t know if he’s what we need. But I agree with your description of an effective 6.

My point I suppose is we are struggling to find top order batsmen capable of batting in test cricket in anything but a road. And I include Warner in that. I blame the short game for this. Blokes cannot bat with intent when they have to defend ie: turning the strike, defending for long periods etc.
