Cricket Season Thread

It’s hard for teams playing against Bazball as they are hitting a lot of 6s.
Seriously though, England is hopeless getting done over 4 times. What’s the total cost?
I’m sure Aussies got done in the first Test.
The cost is World Test Championship points, and england dropped to 5th due to the penalties and Oz dropped to 3rd.

Be a great opening pair right now. Crawley has always been a dasher and tbh I thought Cummins in particular would have him on a platter . He will always give you a chance but he has began to learn where his off stump is . Usman is super solid and I still think a little under rated by the more global cricket fraternity if not in Australia . Plus David Gower says he is the nicest bloke in the world and that is good enough for me.

Also players get fined and there has been recent changes to the penalties and Uzzy was the main player. I’ve never really taken much interest in the penalties for slow over rates before but you got me thinking about it and how does a newbie go up to the captain and tell him to hurry up with the field bcoz he’s gunna lose 80% of his match fee to slow over rates?
I reckon there has to be a better way, maybe runs per over then doubled and added to the batting team’s score as sundries. Something that will make the fielding team run to their positions if they are behind on overs.

I found these two links informative if your interested?

Yeah these penalties are very harsh.
Australia is going to miss Usman when he goes. He really would have made a great captain.

I’ve always like Uzzy, and agree he would make a great leader. I hope he has a great back end to his career and gets to go out on a high.
Yes the penalties were to harsh, better now. They’re penalising the talent, and the whole team, there has to be a better way. Like in game penalties.
Even the points penalties for the WTC is not an ideal system, teams are now looking at what they need to score WTC points per game till the end of that scoring period. India only need 7ish (6 for a draw) were Oz and Poms 9.7 and 9.4. A couple more wins and India can ride it out with draws, and now that is not the way to promote positive cricket.

Do the selectors stick with David Warner for tests back in Australia and let him retire on his terms or should he be dumped now and start the rebuilding stage with a new opener. Uzzy and Smith will not be around for ever and can't have them all retiring together.

What options do Australia have to be the next Opener/s?

Dumped now. Sensationalism. Then a film down the track. Fitting under the Warner Brothers Label. And absolutely too young be retiring in their 30's. All of them. Bludgers!!!!!

Dave has a good record at home and I would be keeping him on till Sydney, and I would be telling the next inliners to sharpen up coz there is an Oz opening spot up for grabs before the end of the summer, so show us who wants it most.

First things first there is a hell of a lot a white ball cricket before the next test and Warner will open with Head in ODI's .Smith will be joined by Marsh ,Stoinis and Maxwell and Carey
Starc ,Cummings , Zampa anyone's guess the other bowler Agar or Neeser or Jhye Richardson or Boland
I think Marnus and Green and Hazelwood won't make the ODI side

More than a few useful cricketers in that lot.

Going back to the final day of the last Ashes test, I just can't get my head around the Poms NOT having a drink with the Aussies!

Like it's cricket spirit lost, not like this from all those years ago:

Fred Trueman and Gary Sobers share a drink at The Oval, September 19, 1982. Could be a very long night.

Couple of gentlemen who knew where the boundary rope was and once crossed let the gun begin.

PS I remember reading once Fiery Freddy’s definition of a gentleman. A bloke who got out of the bath for a p..s !

One bright spot in last few days our white ball 20/20 team with a bunch of debutants has totally smashed South Africa in South Africa TWICE this week ,
Captain Mitchell Marsh exceptional .His batting WOW !
