Cricket Season Thread

Just some "flips" by Rishabh Pant overnight in the India/England test - and the more remarkable when you know that Pant barely survived a major car accident in '22.

Just WOW!!

Something I was just thinking about ....but what ever happened to the hole in the ground they used to stick the fielding teams helmet in.....
I think the answer has been buried ....... 😉

Although I found this:

"The practice of using a hole in the ground to store fielding team helmets is no longer commonplace in cricket. While helmets are a crucial part of a fielder's safety gear, they are now generally placed on the boundary or stored in designated areas away from the field of play.
This shift is due to changes in the Laws of Cricket and a greater emphasis on player safety."

And there's more:

" Here's why the hole in the ground is no longer used:
  • Safety Regulations:
Modern cricket laws prioritize player safety. Keeping helmets in a designated area away from the field of play minimizes the risk of them interfering with play or causing injury.
  • Interference with Play:
A helmet left on the field, even in a hole, could potentially be struck by the ball, leading to a dead ball situation and potentially penalty runs for the batting side.

  • Convenience and Organization:
Designated areas or the boundary line provide a more organized and convenient place for players to store their helmets, ensuring they are readily accessible when needed.

  • Modern Equipment:
Wicket-keepers often wear helmets while standing up to the stumps, and other fielders may also choose to wear them, especially in positions where there is a higher risk of being hit by the ball.
Therefore, while the image of helmets being placed in a hole in the ground might be a nostalgic one for some cricket fans, it's no longer a standard practice in the modern game due to safety concerns and the need to keep the field clear for play.

We are sticking with Green at No 3 tonight in the 1st test
This is despite he failed miserably in the WTC final
He lasted 3 balls in the 1st innings and 2 balls in the 2nd innings !
He doesn't bowl atm and hardly fielded a ball .The classic definition of a spectator . Of all the batsmen in Australia that's the best we can do .
OK The Windies are unlikely to have a bowling attack as lethal as the Souff Effricans do.
Experiment all you want George and Andrew but 5 months from now you better have a batting line up to thrash the currently cock ahoop poms
When we almost whitewashed the poms 4 years ago the batting line up was
Warner, Kwajaja ,Labuschagne ,Smith , Head ,Green ,Carey ( in that order)
Now its
Konstas, Kwajaja, Green , Inglis , Head , Webster , Carey (in that order )
The bowling line-up is the same except Boland was a major wicket taker 4 years ago and now its Hazelwood in for Boland ? A bit dubious imo
Also Lyon is 4 years older and definitely on the decline
Brickbats to CA as only foxtel customers can watch it ok for me but Ch 7 obviously don't want to pay for it
