Cricket Season Thread

Got to give Jake a go, attacking opening batsmen with good technique, hopefully will go alright. Renshaw has averaged 30 for last 2 years but getting better which is good. That young Victorian opener is the future I think, looks to have a very sound technique and patient. Highly rated down south.
Kellaway?

So you also go with Webster over Weatherald ?
I’m waiting till the absolute last minute to pick a team. That is the one thing I do know for certain. But at this point Lyon has numbers at New Perth so I reckon they play him contrary to some ideas. I think the selectors love their Green, if he’s got any form they play him and I reckon they have a thing for him at 3.
I’m a fan, but Hazo has thrown a spanner, he’s been bowling as well as anyone, but I’m not wasting a spot on and extra all rounder in case an opening bowler breaks down. He is either five day fit or he gets replaced just like anyone else.
I’m a fan of openers but I’m still not sure if Wetherald has knocked the door down for that spot, whereas Marnus has to play, and I reckon this is where selectors will give him a crack with his state mate Uzi and that will allow Green at 3 and Smith at 4. Head hasn’t scored this season but he gets named with Webster and Carey who has also scored enough to hold on.
Short answer - Yes. 😎

Based on latest form my team
Kwajaja
Green
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Starc
Lyon
Boland
Hazelwood or Doggett ( depending on Hazo hammy fitness )

If Doggett in he bats either 8 or 9
If Weatherald plays he opens moving Green to Websters spot
Who misses out .
So its either Weatherald or Webster but not both
Agree Steve. This is probably the best side. I like Weatherald but not sure he has done enough. Think Green and Marnus would probably swap though.

Having both Webster and Green either allows Starc and Hazlewood to go harder in shorter bursts or increases their chances of playing maximum tests by not overbowling them early.

When Green is fit and bowling well, batsmen look like they find it tough, I hope he’s fit and would love to see him scoring and taking wickets for a home season, with a mom, and NO injuries. Just so he can build some confidence going into this next phase of his career. He’s 26, he has about 8 years, hopefully all injury free and at the top of his game.
Com’on the unicorn.

Think much of our fortunes in the medium term depend on Green getting close to his ceiling
