Cricket Season Thread

I read that Bethall has never scored a first class century😮. How times have changed!
They’re desperate.
He has an ODI 100 and has a rep as a batting all rounder in the short format. But his long game is fairly average, but as is the way these days, hit a few t20 runs and you can end up playing test matches.

I am very interested to see where the play him, they need a sold 3 and 4.

Australia going with four quicks and no spinner. Obviously have little faith in Spud Murphy. It could also mean Green’s places is on shaky grounds, because with four quicks you don’t need a back up seamer to chew out a few overs. Having the ashes in the bag I would have played Murphy as we need a spinner who is capable of taking over from Garry and spinners like Murphy need test match experience.

Anyway always love the Boxing Day test and would love to see the Aussies inflict further pain on the arch enemy

Good morning from an overcast Melbourne to all cricket fans. Max Temp today 17 degrees, brrrr.
All I’ve got to say is Boxing Day Test !
( it’s right up there with “ start your engines”)
4-0, 4-0, 4-0.
Yeah can you turn the heater on down there, it’s blowing from the south. I had to wear a jacket out walking The Fonz this morning. 19deg, feels like 16 they said, more like -16.
But I’m like Bruce “I don’t care” the only thing that can ruin Boxing Day is rain at the G.
My phone says overcast with no rain. What have you got for us Hal?

Currently very cloudy but no rain. I’ve just finished my 5km walk and having coffee. I’m not going to cricket , preferring races at Sandown, whilst watching on TV.

Yeah I would’ve gone with Murphy and one of Webster or green.
But I’m not at the G looking at what maybe a green top and 2 overcast days?

I agree, spinners don’t learn much sitting on a bench at some fancy park.
We really need to help spinners in this country. There is a void at the moment, but why would you want to be a spinner in Oz? You get some bounce yeah but not much else. I reckon we should have at least one ground like Sydney use to be considered a spin friendly wicket. I remember during the decade of floggings we got from the WI’s, Sydney was our one big chance of winning a game. Tough gig spin bowling here.

And the heater?
It’s still only 18.5 degrees up here? 🥶

The pool is clean, the BBQis ready, I have a TV outside, and Santa left a pool noodle armchair under the tree.

I’m opening with Uzy.
Yeah it’s Green for go for me too I think. It’s a bit rough, he saved us on the road but he has been terrible at home.
Is Richo ready? He got 5 wickets, 4 in the first innings in the lions game but what if it’s hot and he has to bowl all day, will he be a passenger in the 2nd innings, Doggs or Ness won’t be.
Starcy only needs 25 more wickets to beat Lakers record. Go Starcy!!
Agree Uzzie to open but think he won't
Imo Cam Green averaging 19 this series is not justifying his place also note he has no catches as well where he dropped one in last test when knick was identical to one Marnus caught so I think he is down on confidence .
Also think Weatherald is on thin ice as he gets hit on pads a lot to full balls
He didn't even have the confidence to challenge his last Lbw when as it happened I thought that it pitched outside leg stump and it did.
No Todd Murphy might be a mistake
However happy Neser and Richardson playing
Hope Starc can stand up ( bodywise ) to 4 tests in a row
Think whoever wins toss will bowl

Green is the only player who could swap teams before the start and not affect the result,he has been woeful and lucky to make the team.Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

Yeah well we’ve all seen the teams they’ve gone with and it doesn’t surprise me Green is a still there.
Starcy will be fine, wish he was bowling first up.
Time for Weathers and also Head to prove themselves as openers on a tough deck at test level. Although I’d be looking at the Pom pace attack and thinking here my chance.

If the ball lands on that green strip of an on or outside stumps then defend. They are spraying it around enough you won’t have to wait long. Head couldn’t wait long enough.

From 0-27 after 6 overs to 3-34 after 11.5 overs very bad
Head out trying his shot thru gully to a ball too close no room and he does this a lot .Weatherald the legside strangle and his head falls too much to off again .
Marnus the conventional knick .All 3 out to typical method .Dont learn !
Another good break winning toss for England .Cant complain about luck
Smith has lost all 3 coin tosses .

Like a team going in at half time up 36-0....very hard to keep the foot on the throat and maintain the rage......it never ends up 72-0 fulltime

Long way to go here but the Poms have more to play for the we do, but going with 4 quicks looks to be the correct decision
