I must say I am happy with the government's measures to date to help Businesses, Employers and Employees with a continued wage subsidy and Payroll tax breaks.
As a small business/Company It will certainly help to keep the doors open and staff employed while we all try to get through this.
Even if I have to reduce their hours a little they should still be ok and I will help where I can
Having a couple of mortgages and business loans myself it eases the mind a little
I just spent 6 months of weekends busting my arse doing up a house to sell only to have this Virus hit
With no open homes allowed and a vacant house with no rental income, and unlikely to get any at this point, it will certainly stretch the finances
Sometimes I feel like I just keep on getting kicked in the guts
At 52 years of age if things go pear shaped I won't be able to climb up again
It will be time to live a simple life
Maybe hippies have got it right after all
I could say a lot more about the cards I was dealt in life but I am sure many of us have a story
All I can say is if you are doing it tough try and keep your head up, your certainly not alone
What else can we do

For someone that feels like they 'just keep on getting kicked in the guts' @Cairnstigers....you are able to retain a great sense of humour....and that's a great gift.

We all need Humour in our life to keep us going mate
I have always enjoyed trying to make people laugh
And most people do laugh
But there are some that just don't have a sense of humour or are easily offended
But that is what makes a good joke
I accept all walks of life
I am not racist and I couldn't care if someone is gay, dark skin, Asian, Indian or any other race or colour. It just doesn't matter
What matters is we all should get on
And because of my views I think it is ok for me to tell jokes at the expense of others
Just like I am ok with people making fun of me

Very hard for all. Can footy clubs access the government job keeper money?

Yes they should be able to, but Id guess for the majority of their employees $750 a week would be a huge paycut but much better than Newstart or nothing! With a turnover of less than $1B all they would need to do was prove their business has dropped by at least 30%

Hope they can. My wife can access and it makes all the difference to us. Just that little bit extra. How are you guys going mate?

I will be able to access it too and it will make a huge difference for us too! We are ok mate, Jo works at Nepean hospital as and Occupational Therapist so they guaranteed income has been good for us. Until the job keeper scheme I was looking at going onto newstart but will know be able to get the $750.

Hardest part has been the effect on my daughter so just trying to get her through this with as much normality as possible!

How are you guys going?

We are fine. My job very secure which is 80% if our combined income.
Mate my kids are a bit older than your daughter. After a really crappy divorce I’ve learnt kids are really resilient. You’re a good dad - she’ll be fine.

Yeah just see her getting upset quite easily over little things atm, I know she will be right coming out the otherside but just hate seeing it.

The biggest hassle we have had has been I'm involved in 2 small businesses that both rely on the restaurant and pub industries for 99% of their combined businesses.

Mate I really hope all is ok for you. Hopefully this is all done with soon. Can’t offer anything to you but hope. You guys will recover, I just hope it doesn’t take too long mate

Mate, we will be ok, in a better position than a lot of people! My mates business that I have a small % in, I have spent 2 years working with that as my primary job and we have built that to the point where it will make it through, we will actually use this time to install some more machinery to make us stronger coming out the otherside. My business that I own 100% I was just starting to build and was actually training my 1st lot of staff at the end of February. In saying that it's a pub entertainment business, ie trivia night etc. So it has little overheads so was easy to put into hibernation and restart coming out the otherside.

Good luck mate. We’ll have a beer first home game back. Whenever that is??

Sound great mate! I really look forward to it.

Thanks for the kind remarks to you all.
I'm unlucky to be in this situation at a time when there's a lot of extra things to worry about apart from getting through the cancer.
I was looking forward to the footy to help keep me sane (if you can be considered sane following the mighty WestsTigers) but now that's gone too lol
There remains one constant though... I can always rely on my fellow supporters on here to keep me occupied and amused!

All the best mate. Stay safe and strong.

Here's a few good places to get

if anyone needs computer stuff mwave https://www.mwave.com.au/ or scorptec https://www.scorptec.com.au/ are pretty cheap. MSY in Ultimo has gone up in price actually. JB hi Fi is so so too.

technocity near Chinatown (NSW) is usually pretty good http://www.capitolsquare.com.au/technocity.html but everywhere is sold out on webcams and laptops !

take care!

So my missus was laid off the other day, told no more work until at least the end of may.
She was told to register an intention to claim for job keeper thru MyGov... We did that and last night she got a text saying to go to centrelink website thru MyGove link to apply... But there is nothing on that website related to job keeper at all.
The initial "intent to register" states it only needed to be done once... However really having no confirmation of anything other than the text where she was physically unable to follow the directions is concerning and stressful.
I understand why there are massive queues as people cannot get anywhere on this govt pathetic website.
People are left in limbo not knowing if they're in the queue or not

She doesn't get job keeper it she is laid of mate, has to go onto newstart (dole) or whatever it is called now which is paid at about $1100 a fortnight (is only $550 a fortnight until the end of April). To get Job Keeper her employer has to keep her on and pay her $1500 a fortnight which they then claim back from the government. The responsibility for signing up for job keeper is the workplace!

Why do they have to change things all the time? Idiots!

Hey Ink go into mygov and as soon as your in it will have an intention to claim statement, your missus should only have to hit the intention to claim button and then they will text you that they have received the claim,if she is an account holder already it will be easy, otherwise she may have to go to Centrelinks office...It depends on having the account already or having to register,it was hell for me because I had to give details and answer a heap of questions before they registered me,however because of this pandemic and people have no money they will be fast forwarding the process quicker...good luck mate you and the family stay safe and well...

Hey zig thanks mate.... We did all that and all bar the last four words you're spot on.

She already had a centrelink CRN.
We logged into MyGov... Hit the intention to claim button... She got the text last night... That text is the confusing part, it said to go to centrelink thru MyGov and apply to claim.... But the centrelink website has nothing about job keeper.

All I can find on this is articles, nothing official on step by step guidelines.... And most of the articles need subscription.

We'll get there I guess...

Ink she will have to see her employer in regard to JOBKEEPER,the centrelink in my gov deals with JOBSEEKER..the jobkeeper was passed last night through Parliament and you may have to investigate what it means for your missus, otherwise she may have to do the intention to claim through jobseeker..cheers mate..its pretty confusing but persevere with it,you should get the right outcome..

Hey mate,
I think you have my number, but I will pm it to you incase you want to have a chat about this, I know how this all works fairly well. If she has been laid off she has to apply for Jobseeker through mygov, if she is still employed the company she works for pays her the $1500 a fortnight and then the company claims that through Jobkeeper. It is better if she can get her work to claim Jobkeeper as it is $400 more a fortnight.

Yeah when I said laid off that probably not accurate.... Her employer said no work until at least end of may... She got a letter from work I need to read again. I'm Aussie and it's confusing for me, she's filipina and English not the best

I'm a sole trader, and went through the whole "get a CRN" from centrelink. Started the mind numbing exercise of applying for the jobseeker ( $1100/fortnight) payments. What a headXXXX that is !!!!!!!!
Then found out that the jobkeeper . . $1500/ fortnight is done through the ATO, not the 'link.
Applied and am waiting for "updates"
Hope this helps.

As others have mentioned, there is nothing yet on JobKeeper as it only went through parliament last night - business have only been able to register for now. And it's with the ATO.

Re JobSeeker, yes that's a different kettle of fish - the only thing I can add about that is that the mobile version has been dropping out, so use a desktop for online stuff.

We were about to put everyone off and onto newstart, spoke to all our employees about it, I literally finished writing the severance letters and the government announced jobkeeper! I then had to turn around and tell staff that we would now be keeping them on and then applied for the jobkeeper for our employees. The hard part being a small business is we have to keep paying them all through April and then we get the money back in the first week of May, we are a small business that lost 95% or revenue in one week when the pubs and restaurant bans were put in place and that month or wages needs to be covered with no incoming. We are lucky that we had decent reserves but a lot or small businesses are operating closer to the line than that!

That’s right, the Jobkeeper plan was passed through the lower house yesterday, but casuals and visa holders are not included, only permanent and part time workers fall under the jobkeeper umbrella.
If you are a permanent or part time employee , your employer would have registered you for jobkeeper, if their revenue has dropped by 30% or more. Check with your employer, they may be unaware?

Casuals need to apply at Centrelink via the myGov website for jobseeker which has been boosted to around $1124 per fortnight I think?

Casuals are included if they have been employed by the same business for at least 12 months, I actually have one casual employee who will receive a pay rise through this!
