TUIAKI NAMED DALLY M WINGER OF THE YEAR
Tuesday, September 08, 2009
Wests Tigers player Taniela Tuiaki has tonight been named the Dally M Winger of the Year.
>
Tuiaki was presented with the trophy at the State Theatre after an outstanding season where he scored 21 tries in 22 matches before a season ending leg injury against Parramatta in Round 24.
>
In doing so, Tuiaki set a new record for most tries in a season, passing the 20 tries set by former winger Pat Richards in 2005.
>
Tuiaki also joked to presenter Greg Alexander that it was frustrating to watch Rhys Hanbury and Blake Ayshford score tries on his wing after the injury. Tuiaki finished second for the leading tryscorer in the NRL behind the Dragons' Josh Morris.
>
Meanwhile, Gareth Ellis was nominated for the Second-Rower of the Year for his outstanding efforts in his debut season in the NRL. However, the award went to Manly’s Anthony Watmough.
>
Wests Tigers captain Robbie Farah was nominated for Hooker of the Year but was beaten to the trophy by the Bulldogs’ Michael Ennis despite representing NSW in the first and second Origin matches.
>
Parramatta full-back Jarryd Hayne was named the Dally M Player of the Year. Farah finished fourth in the voting tally despite not winning the award for his position.
Balmain1…..You maybe right...I still don't get how a player can poll more points for the Year..... yet not get the positional award.....by your logic Kimmorely should have been Halfback of the Year instead of Thurston.....
